Summary
As Stephen’s bombshell comes to light, it changes a lot of things. Mainly it changes how we had previously viewed Macy’s death. But even with the tragic news, Stephen continues to act like a total arse.
The Christmas season is over—well, at least for the characters in Tell Me Lies. With plenty of relationship drama, they soon forget about the holiday and find themselves thrown into a world of chaos. Episode 6 opens in January 2008. Everyone returns to campus now that the Christmas holiday is over. Lucy tells her friends that she believes that she may be finished with Steven, much to their relief.
When class resumes, Lucy finds herself being underprepared for class. However, with an assignment due on Thursday, she has her work cut out. After Steven reunites with Diana, they end up having sex in the library. But it’s quite possible that Pippa has cottoned on to their sexual relationship.
After Lucy goes out for coffee with Stephen’s best friend, Evan, she asks him to tell her if Stephen lies to her. Evan chooses not to reveal anything. But Lucy continues to dig for further information.
Although Evan doesn’t reveal any details, he tells Lucy that whatever she thinks about Stephen won’t be in her imagination. After Evan tells Lucy not to throw him under the bus, Evan tells Stephen that he has just seen Lucy. When Evan says that Lucy is upbeat, Stephen finally decides that he wants to meet Lucy.
As Lucy has a new roommate, she and Stephen don’t go back to her flat. Instead, they go for a walk. During the walk, Stephen apologizes to Lucy over Christmas. But it leads to an argument, and Stephen finally comes clean. He reveals that he had slept with Macy the summer before campus.
And it doesn’t stop there. After he went to a party with Macy, he got into a car with her. After they crashed and the other driver also fled, Stephen realized that she was dead. So, Stephen also fled the scene, fearing he would be kicked out of school. As Lucy consoles him, Stephen tells him that Drew is the other driver.
As Lucy and Stephen leave her room the following morning, Pippa and Brew spot her. Whilst Brew decides to stay out of it, Pippa tells her to stay careful. As Pippa tells Lucy about seeing Stephen with Diana, Lucy tells Stephen what Diana saw. However, Lucy simply informs Stephen to stop treating her like an idiot and to treat her with some fu*king respect. Shortly afterward, Stephen breaks up with Diana.
Stephen tries to get into Wrigley’s head and accuses Pippa of being “open to stuff.” Is Stephen trying to break Wrigley and Pippa up? Probably.
After Stephen gets Wrigley to open up about Pippa’s interests, Stephen refuses to speak about Lucy in the same way. When it comes to the uni party, Stephen arrogantly states that he and Lucy will still get into the party without costumes. He is wrong, and it puts him in a massive mood.
At the party, Evan reveals that he “likes” Lucy more than he does Stephen. The episode ends with Stephen throwing cruel insults at Pippa for meddling in his relationship with Lucy.
