Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain are teaming up to bring to the screen Charles Graeber’s book The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder. Danish filmmaker Tobias Lindholm, who wrote the critically acclaimed Another Round, is stepping in behind the camera to direct. If you have not heard about this film or would like to know more, you are in the right place! Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Netflix film, which already played in a few film festivals.
Netflix film The Good Nurse plot synopsis
Here is the official plot synopsis of the movie:
“Amy, a compassionate nurse and single mother struggling with a life-threatening heart condition, is stretched to her physical and emotional limits by the hard and demanding night shifts at the ICU. But help arrives when Charlie, a thoughtful and empathetic fellow nurse, starts at her unit. While sharing long nights at the hospital, the two develop a strong and devoted friendship, and for the first time in years, Amy truly has faith in her and her young daughter’s future. But after a series of mysterious patient deaths sets off an investigation that points to Charlie as the prime suspect, Amy is forced to risk her life and the safety of her children to uncover the truth.”
Our opinion of the premise
The premise sounds absolutely fascinating, though I was sold on the movie after I saw the very first picture revealed by Vanity Fair, featuring Chastain and Redmayne talking to each other dressed as nurses. Even before I knew what it was about, I knew that a movie that heavily relied on these two outstanding actors talking to each other would be something that would appeal to me. And as a massive fan of thrillers, especially when they come with a bit of a twist, I was even more excited after reading the premise.
The Good Nurse release date

What is the cast & crew saying?
Speaking to Vanity Fair in a feature that was published over the summer, the actors and the director discussed what appealed to them about The Good Nurse. Jessica Chastain, for instance, said that she’s found a lot of true crime shows and movies “a bit vulgar”, as “there’s a sensationalism of violence and of aggression”. In this case, though, it was the character of Amy that called to her: “I wanted to acknowledge someone like Amy,” said Chastain. “She’s the kind of superhero that I want to celebrate, because they’re everywhere.”
Lindholm said the following about why he wanted to make the movie: “When I read the book, I realized that it wasn’t just another serial-killer movie. It was a portrayal of a system that didn’t stop the serial killer, and the nurse who did.”
Redmayne also treated it as a character piece and became fascinated by his character and what drove his actions: “From an actor’s point of view, [it was about] trying to interrogate why—why this person did what he did, with the acknowledgment that you were never going to find that answer. But the interrogation of it was pretty intriguing.”
