Just in time for Halloween, 28 Days Haunted is taking the streaming world by storm. Why? Well, it’s pretty evenly split at the moment between people who think it’s ridiculous and hilarious and those who have totally bought into the whole ghost-hunting thing. Either way, it’s entertainment, isn’t it? Unless you take it too seriously, but if you’re one of those people, you ought to be more worried about the ghoul standing behind you right now.
Only joking, obviously. But wherever you stand on issues of the otherworldly, it’s inarguable that 28 Days Haunted has been a mega-hit. Mega-hits generate all kinds of attention on social media, attract all sorts of eyeballs, and make Netflix bucketloads of cash. And you know what that means — more seasons!
So, just in case you’re wondering, here’s everything we know.
Currently, there has been no official confirmation either way. But that’s totally normal — Netflix likes to take a show’s temperature before they diagnose it with anything, and 28 Days Haunted is currently running a fever. At this rate, it’ll shoot to the top of Netflix Top 10, dominate the conversation for a week or two, and then provide a guaranteed hit for next Halloween. We’re talking, after all, about the streamer that commissioned not one, not two, but three seasons of Haunted, which is absolutely dreadful trash, and even a spin-off of that show in Haunted: Latin America.
28 Days Haunted has another advantage in that it’s related to the theories of Ed and Lorraine Warren, and there’s an entire film franchise based on their exploits that is somehow still thriving, despite having only produced, like, one good movie. So, you can’t understate the popularity of those two, who, lest we forget, are considered charlatans even amongst the ghost-hunting community. Imagine that.
So, take our word for it, 28 Days Haunted will be renewed for a second season sooner rather than later.
While the 28 Days Haunted ending suggests, somewhat unbelievably, that the 28-day cycle theory has been conclusively proved, it’s always good to show your work. A second season would likely repeat the experiment to gather more data, probably involving different paranormal investigators and famously haunted locations. It’s the kind of premise that you can continue to re-do forever, as long as there are locations that people claim are haunted — which, needless to say, there always will be.
