Young Royals season 2, episode 5 recap

Season 2, episode 5 opens up with Wilhelm and Simon thinking about each other intently. Their love for each other is not ebbing away. Simon is feeling regretful for pursuing a romance with Wilhelm again and betraying Marcus. Sara tries to reassure him. But there are more important things to think about in the penultimate chapter; Hillerska is preparing for the Jubilee and the Royal Family’s arrival.

And so Simon attends choir practice for the Jubilee performance. Simon is annoyed that there are some adjustments which mean he does not get a solo, and it is more a “group performance.” This is demanded by the Royal Court. In reality, the Royal Court probably does not want Simon in the limelight due to the sex video.

Simon is frustrated and tells Wilhelm that kissing at the Valentine’s Ball was a mistake. Wilhelm reveals to Simon that it was August who intentionally leaked the video, and he didn’t tell him to protect him. This does not help Simon’s anger, and he walks away. When Simon meets up with his friends, he admits that people like August get away with everything, but they don’t want him to give up.

And then, Wilhelm receives a call from the Queen and learns the Royal Court is worried about his capability of taking the throne and that August is his backup. He’s reminded that his decisions do not just affect him but The Crown too and that he must give the speech as the Crown Prince.

A frustrated Wilhelm visits his therapy about his predicament with his Royal position. He feels he owes it to The Crown to deliver the speech, but the therapist makes him question his reality. He explains that he’s allowed to feel whatever he feels and live however he wants to live.

Sara is sad that the horse is getting sold to the wrong family, and she confides in August about it. She’s annoyed at Felice for letting it happen. August comforts Sara. The next day, Sara apologizes to August for being mean at the Ball and says that she didn’t want Felice to get angry at her. August teases Sara, stating she could be a Queen one day.

Eventually, Wilhelm tells Simon that he’s sorry for not letting him know about August leaking the video and reveals that August is his backup, so if he gives up his position, he can live the life he wants. He’s willing to renounce the throne for Simon, which takes him by surprise.
