Summary

The tension builds as Jen juggles lies to multiple people she cares about. Applegate continues to shine in the role of her career.

We recap the Netflix series Dead to Me season 3, episode 2, “We Need to Talk,” which contains spoilers.

Dead to Me season 3, episode 1 shows the aftermath of the accident that put Judy (Linda Cardellini) and Jen (Christina Applegate) in the hospital. The series has been light on laughs this year because the tension and stakes are higher than ever. Have no fear, however, because Perez (Diana Maria Riva) is in charge of the case, right? Wrong. She no longer controls Steve’s body and how he was found in the forest. Why is Perez no longer in charge of the case? It is because the land is federal property. Basically, Steve was found smack in the middle of the FBI’s jurisdiction.

Dead to Me season 3, episode 2 recap

The episode starts with Jen continuing to wear the neck brace and trying to produce words/courage to tell Judy that she may have cancer. I mean, she probably should have told her immediately at the hospital. You know, time is fleeting and all. However, she waits until that moment in the kitchen. Except, she doesn’t and chooses wine and weed to relax.

That’s when Charlie confronts both of them about the letter. The fact that Judy participated in his father’s hit and run, then his mother killed Steve. Except, the letter reads more as if Judy slept with Ted. Instead of setting the record straight, they allowed him to believe it to protect Judy. Also, Jen admits to lighting Steve’s car on fire because of the Greek mafia/syndicate but never tells him about killing him in a fit of rage. Why is Jen doing this? Remember, Charlie still does not know it was Jen who killed Steve.

Meanwhile, Jen’s mother-in-law shows up with a birthday gift for Charlie. It’s his dream car. Yes, much better than the rodent-powered Kia Jen and Judy were driving over to him before the accident. The mother-in-law is rude about it, saying Jen cannot afford to give him one. They also added that Judy would not know the pain of losing a child, sibling, or spouse. Yes, she’s that kind of person. Ben shows up later and gallantly carries Jen up the stairs like the dreamboat his fans envision him as. Ben, though, is under severe mental stress and starts to see his twin brother in the mirror and has flashbacks. Of what? We aren’t sure, but it almost looked like the back of Jen’s home.

Dead to Me season 3, episode 2 ending

Dead to Me season 3, episode 2 ends with Jen breaking the news to Judy that her scans revealed possible masses. Judy takes it in stride initially, but when she is alone, she starts to crack. Meanwhile, Ben leaves home and goes to a bar. He does this after Henry gives the home that damn carved wooden bird. Ben is upset, drinking, and leaves the bird on the bar.

Nick sees him leave and tries to notify Ben he left the bird on the bar. He picks it up, and the episode ends.
