Summary

Dead to Me regains its sardonic dark humor in Applegate’s funniest turn of the season.

We recap the Netflix series Dead to Me season 3, episode 4, “Where Do We Go Now,” which contains spoilers.

Dead to Me season 3, episode 4 regains some of the trademark sharp dark humor the series is known for. With Christina Applegate firing off sharps jabs and the writer’s sardonic wit, this is the season’s best outing yet. The show finally produced a couple of eye-opening surprises along the way, including Ben’s (James Marsden) admission and Judy’s (Linda Cardellini) medical outcomes. Let’s talk about episode 4.

Dead to Me season 3, episode 4 recap

The show has established that Judy is in the denial stage of her grief over her cancer diagnosis. Just because the first scan and the biopsy confirm cervical cancer that has spread to her liver doesn’t mean it’s actually the stage four type of disease, right? That’s Judy’s reasoning because she feels fine, and if that drunk driver had never hit her, she would have never been evaluated in the first place. Yes, Judy has her head stuck in the sand. Ben and his family have the funeral for Steve. Per Jen’s mother-in-law, the invaluable Valarie Mahaffey, you cannot put the soup back into a suit. Yes, she is that type of person, as we established earlier this season.

Judy is having an unbelievably lousy week, to say the least. When she takes Michelle’s mother out of the nursing home, even though she is immunocompromised, she is let go from her job. I think she needs her health insurance, but remember, she has that laundered Greek money. Michelle, if you remember, is Judy’s former lover, and they now reconnect (she was also Perez’s ex-partner). Michelle owned a restaurant, cooking for Judy, but it has closed. She now has an opportunity to open up one that is attached to an organic winery in Sonoma, California. Their chemistry is apparent, and their mutual attraction soon overcomes them. They sleep together, and Judy tries to tell her that she has cancer, but Michelle falls asleep before she hears it. Judy repeats it to herself and finally comes to the acceptance stage.

Jen has gotten stuck in the creepiest room in Ben’s parent’s house. After getting her butt grabbed by his father, they obviously have the same taste in women. She wanders into a room dedicated to a horrific collection of dolls. Unfortunately, the door locks behind her, which is strange because it locks from the outside. Jen calls Ben, who sets her free, and they spend the evening talking to each other while listening to music in Jen’s car as the rain comes tumbling down all around them. Jen play’s her favorite music, heavy metal, which suits her personality. Ben plays his Dolly Parton, which is meaningful because it talks about kissing. The look between them says it all.

Dead to Me season 3, episode 4 ending – what does Ben admit to Jen?

Ben needs to tell Jen something. What does Ben admit to Jen? He tells Jen that he hit her while driving drunk because he had just found out Steve’s body was found. Ben anticipates that Jen will want him to leave and never forgive him. Jen, however, grabs Ben and kisses him. Dead to Me season 3, episode 4 ends with the shots overhead, looking down at the car, and we assume nature is taking its course.
