Summary
The Sex Lives of College Girls season 2 kicks off with some of that same quick-witted humor and authenticity we loved in season 1.
The girls of Essex College are back for season 2 of The Sex Lives of College Girls. We had so many things left open during the finale of season one. Will Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) be able to make it? Is Leighton (Reneé Rapp) going to come out? Will Bela (Amrit Kaur) be able to bounce back in her dreams of being a comedy writer? How does Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) handle life post-relationship with the coach? Let’s dive into Episode 1 of Season 2.
The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2, episode 1 recap
The episode begins with Leighton talking to her dad about Thanksgiving and something happening with Nico. He tells her not to worry about him, to study hard, and find herself a boyfriend. Next, Kimberly and Whitney embrace as they return from Thanksgiving break. Bela is lying on the couch in her underwear when they walk in. Finally, as Leighton walks into the room, we discover what happened to Nico. He got suspended after an investigation into the stolen tests.
We see the ladies walking the grounds at the college, and they ask Kimberly if she has told her parents about the loss of her scholarship, and she hasn’t yet. So she has to come up with 42 thousand dollars per semester. Bela suggests that Leighton and Whitney should use their family money, which Kimberly says no to. But, then, Bela has another idea where she should sell feet pics on the dark web. So she wasn’t exactly opposed to the idea.
While the girls are having lunch together, box milk is tossed at the table and hits Leighton. The head of the fraternity, Theta, is mad because they can’t throw parties after the snitching/testing incident. The guys mention that they aren’t happy and will never take food inside Theta again. As the ladies walk back to their dorms, Bela is upset because they won’t get to party, but Leighton reminds her that they can’t throw parties any and will find a new frat group to party with. Before the ladies can enter the room, a guy leaves the bathroom area with just a towel on and is ripped to shreds. It’s their new neighbor.
During their annual dorm meeting, we are introduced to the new climate refuge at the school. It just so happens to be the guy the ladies saw in the hallway, and his name is Jackson. First, we find out that his dorm was ripped apart by a hurricane. A few ladies are already trying to put their claws in the man. Next, we find out that it will snow tomorrow, and it will be the annual snow run where everyone runs through the snow in their underwear.
Kimberly bought Leighton a balloon tower because she thought she would come out to their friends during the summer. However, she didn’t, and Kimberly hurries and hides them. Finally, Leighton says she will tell them when she is ready. Kimberly is dressed to head to the loan office to ask for a loan, and Leighton dresses her because banks only give money to people that have money (my goodness, how awfully true that is).
The soccer season has come to a close, and while everyone has other plans, Whitney realizes she is the only one with none. During the loan meeting, Leighton tries to help Kimberly through the process, with the lady asking hard-hitting questions. The lady says they will be able to get her that loan but need her parents’ signature, which Kimberly says is not going to happen, and she leaves.
Bela and Evangeline have started a female-only comedy magazine. They announce that someone will join the club and write their first edition of the newfound comedy sisters in a few short days. However, Bela reads the submissions, and they are awful. Evangeline reminds her to be patient about the process. Then, out of nowhere, Bela gets hit with a football, and it’s the Theta sorority boys giving them a hard time. Leighton tosses the football in the trash can.
When the ladies return to their dorm, they hear some loud sex noises coming from the refugee’s room. Next, Bela storms to her old friend’s dorm to try and rejoin Catullan, but he shuts her down and says she needs to find funny people. After that, Whitney tries out for the water polo team, which is a disaster. Later that day, she is in bed with Canaan trying to figure out her hobbies. She is feeling kind of lost post-soccer season.
The group is getting ready for the snow run, but Kimberly stays behind. She is working on her new job of closed captioning for a reality show in Australia. While trying to make out the words being said, her neighbor is back at it again, having loud sex. Between not understanding the lady and the loud sex, Kimberly gives up and joins the party. The party is rocking, and Bela and Lila are drooling over some men. At this moment, Lila says something that sparks the idea of Lila writing a comedy piece on dick shapes for her comedy magazine.
The Sex Lives of College Girls season 2, episode 1 ending
A girl comes up to Leighton to try to give her a shot, but when she notices everyone watching, she bails on it and runs away. Bela is trying to get everyone’s attention with her boobs, the climate refugee shows up, and Kimberly is pissed. So Kimberly confronts him, and he tells her it sucks being on the other side of her wall too. He takes her phone and says to text him if things get loud on his side of the wall. Then, Whitney overhears Canaan saying, “I don’t know what else she has besides soccer,” while talking to his friend about her, which upsets her.
While everyone is having fun at the party, the boys from Theta let them know that this is the last party they will be at. Leighton and Bela call them out and say they can’t ban them from every party. However, they went to the sorority leaders of this party and let them know they were the snitches. So he kicks them all out of the party.
At the end of the episode, while everyone is recapping the night, Leighton finally comes out to the group. The girls are excited and happy for her. They convince her to slide into the girl’s DMs that she spurned at the party. Then, Bela shows up at Eric’s door to thank him for giving her the spark to find the writers for her magazine. However, it doesn’t stop as she goes in for a kiss, and they begin to make out as the episode ends.
