Who does Wednesday end up with in the Netflix series? This article looks at Wednesday’s eventful romantic life and contains spoilers.
Netflix’s new series Wednesday focuses on the titular character’s misadventures during her first semester at Nevermore Academy. Setting the narrative at high school means that the creators can explore much more of Wednesday’s teenage years, with a chance for new friendships and new relationships. Throughout the semester, Wednesday catches the eye of certain individuals, leading to many romantic situations. But the question on everyone’s lips is, who does she end up with by the end of the first season? Let’s delve into Wednesday’s love life further.
Does Wednesday have a love interest in the Netflix series?
There are two main players fighting for Wednesday’s attention in the first season. She has Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White), the Nevermore student, and the townie Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), the Sheriff’s son, both vying for her love. Ironically, these two teens are actually enemies, harboring a long-lasting grudge against one another. Wednesday spends time with both of these heartthrobs and gets to know them both more personally over the course of the first season.
Xavier is the ex-boyfriend of Nevermore’s most popular student, Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday). He is a huge art lover, who spends most of his free time creating works of art. Xavier has the ability to make his drawings and paintings come to life, which is a blessing and a curse at times. Wednesday and Xavier know each other from when they were younger, and Xavier earns some early brownie points by saving her life. They also share the ability to see visions of the future. But she soon comes to mistrust the artist, believing him to either have links to the monster or to actually be the killer.
Wednesday’s other love interest is Tyler Galpin, a townie who works at the Weathervane coffee shop. They spark up a conversation very early in the show, and he offers to drive her away from Jericho, so she can escape Nevermore for good. Tyler is quite persuasive and manages to get Wednesday to go on a date with him. It’s a romantic rendezvous at the local crypt, with candles and a scary movie to watch, which is Legally Blonde if you were wondering. Tyler also manages to land Wednesday as his date for the Rave’N Dance. They eventually kiss, but Wednesday’s hopes are shattered when she has a vision, revealing Tyler to be the monster she is pursuing.
Does Xavier have feelings for Wednesday?
Wednesday is initially cold towards Xavier, even calling him an elitist snob at one point. She overhears him talking with Bianca in secret, and it is clear he has feelings for her. He’s protective of the new girl and wants to shield her from his roommate Rowan, who would later attack her. Xavier invites her to join his secret society, but she declines. He then paints portraits of her in secret – it’s quite the obsession.
When she finally accuses him of being the killer, Xavier obviously turns on her. She doesn’t only call him out as a murderer, but the accusation breaks any possible future relationship they might have had together. Xavier goes to the dance with Bianca instead, although he ruins that romance as well. Even after being accused of murder, Xavier still helps Wednesday with her investigation, but she has him wrongfully arrested when he is framed. Wednesday is well and truly fooled though, Tyler was the enemy all along.
Who does Wednesday end up with in the Netflix series?
Wednesday’s first kiss doesn’t exactly go to plan. During this romantic moment, she has a vision of Tyler transforming into the monster. Her visions are rarely wrong, and she interrogates the shapeshifter the next day, although he doesn’t confess to any offenses. Tyler is eventually revealed to be the true monster and is subsequently arrested. Xavier is thankfully freed with all charges dropped, and Wednesday manages to save the Academy from ruin. Although the final battle does have its casualties and the semester is cut short.
In one of the final scenes of the series, Xavier and Wednesday say their final goodbyes. He thanks her for saving his life and presents her with a gift. Inside the box is a mobile phone and his phone number is already in there for Wednesday if she ever wants to message him. There are no hugs or kisses and no fairy tale ending to this romance, but there are hints that a relationship may be on the cards in future seasons. Poor Wednesday chose the wrong boy, and now she must live with her regrets, but there is always a chance for redemption and new love in the following semester.
