We discuss 7 TV Shows like Emily in Paris you must watch. Check out these excellent recommendations and add them to your watchlist.

When Emily in Paris first dropped on Netflix back in October 2020, audiences were instantly captivated by the fashionable mid-westerner who landed in the French capital to teach locals how to do things the American way. Sure, the series had its fair share of controversies, and some bonafide Parisiens were offended by the stereotypical, bordering on caricature portrayal of French nationals on the show.

Yet, its popularity seems to only grow as each binge-able season drops on Netflix year after year. If you just finished binge-watching the latest season and you’re in the market for more shows where glamorous lifestyles and cheesy storylines take centre stage, check out the below recommendations:

7 TV Shows like Emily in Paris you must watch

Sex and the City (1998 – 2004)

When this iconic series first premiered in the late 90s, many considered it revolutionary for its daring portrayal of female sexuality. The series centers on a group of four single 30-something women trying to find love in New York City. Known for outrageous storylines and impeccable fashion, Sex and The City could be considered the precursor to Emily in Paris

Younger (2015 – 2021)

Another Darren Star creation, Younger is a lighthearted dramedy about a 40-year-old woman pretending to be, well, younger so she can pursue a dream career. Of course, pretending to be 26 when you’re actually in your 40s brings a unique set of comedic challenges. The series stars Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, and Debi Mazar and only finished its seven-season run last year.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017 – )

Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, this hilarious period dramedy is an award-winning Prime Video original. The series is about a 1950s housewife who decides to pursue a career in stand-up comedy, a feat previously unheard of for women at the time. There are currently four seasons of the series available to binge and it’s recently been renewed for a fifth.

The Mindy Project (2012 – 2017)

Created by beloved The Office alumni Mindy Kaling (who’s also the titular star of the show) this series centers on an OB/GYN and the struggles in her love life. With the help of her quirky coworkers, Mindy needs to find a way to balance her professional life while finding the perfect man to settle down with.

The Carrie Diaries (2013 – 2014)

Starring AnnaSophia Robb, this Sex and the City spin-off takes a look at Carrie Bradshaw’s early years after just having moved to New York. While the series was warmly received by audiences, NBC sadly canceled it after only two seasons.

Gilmore Girls (2000 – 2007)

Another popular female-centered show, Gilmore Girls was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and stars Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, and Kelly Bishop. The dramedy tells the story of a young single mother trying to achieve her own goals while helping her highly intelligent daughter receive the education she deserves.

Ugly Betty (2006 – 2010)

Based on a beloved Colombian telenovela, Ugly Betty tells the story of a less-than-conventionally attractive young woman who manages to land a job at a fashion magazine. Despite her lack of style, Betty (played by America Ferrera) is extremely competent but has to constantly battle the prejudice around her. The series ran for four seasons on ABC before its untimely cancellation.
