We discuss whether Crosshair is in danger after the first two episodes of The Bad Batch season 2. There will be spoilers for episodes 1 and 2.
After all the confusion about its release date, The Bad Batch season 2 has finally started to come out on Disney+. Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Echo, and Omega are trying to make their way through a galaxy increasingly falling under Imperial control. The first season was a fun spiritual sequel series to Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, bringing fan-favorite characters from both shows.
The second season looks like it will continue in this vein, with the first two episodes revisiting the home of a major Star Wars villain, Count Dooku, after his demise. But it’s put an increased focus on the Bad Batch, too, giving Echo some much-needed screen time. One key character that was absent from both of the episodes so far released is Crosshair, the villain of Season 1 and former Bad Batch member, but episode two set out some interesting developments for the character.
Where is Crosshair in The Bad Batch season 2?
The first two episodes of the second season of The Bad Batch feature the crew traveling to Count Dooku’s home planet of Serenno to see if they can steal a piece of his war chest. It’s guarded by 40 Imperial clone troopers, and when the heist goes wrong, they’re forced to leave empty-handed.
Crosshair, the only member of the Bad Batch to stay loyal to the Empire, is nowhere to be found in either of the episodes. The second trailer for The Bad Batch season 2 does show him talking to Commander Cody, another clone that remained loyal to the Empire, so at some point after the end of Season 1 of The Bad Batch, Crosshair made his way back to the Empire.
Did Crosshair tell the Empire that the Bad Batch survived Kamino?
At the end of season 1 of The Bad Batch, Crosshair and his Elite Squad are tasked with killing the members of the Bad Batch and getting off Tipoca City before the Imperials destroy it. This goes awry very quickly when Crosshair kills four members of the Elite Squad and asks the Bad Batch to join him and the Empire. Midway through their conversation, the Empire opens fire on the city, submerging it.
With the help of the Bad Batch, Crosshair escapes the destruction and re-joins the Empire. Because admitting to the Empire that the Bad Batch is still alive would also be admitting that he didn’t kill them, Crosshair didn’t tell Rampart or anyone else that the Bad Batch survived the destruction on Kamino. This is confirmed in the second episode of The Bad Batch Season 2 when Rampart is shocked to learn that the Bad Batch is still alive and removes any mention of them from Captain Wilco’s report.
Is Crosshair in danger in The Bad Batch season 2?
At the end of the second episode of Season 2, titled “Ruins of War”, Vice Admiral Rampart finds out that the Bad Batch is still alive and that he failed to get them killed on Kamino. Rampart then explains that should Tarkin learn about this, it would put him in danger, and it might cost him his position, or worse. To prevent the Empire from learning about the Bad Batch’s survival, Rampart gets rid of any mention of them from the report about the attack on the war chest.
This wrinkle now also puts Crosshair in danger too. Should the rest of the Empire learn that he failed to kill his brothers on Kamino and lied about them surviving, his position is also at risk, or his life. The Empire doesn’t take too kindly to failure, after all.
But Rampart now knows that Crosshair failed to kill the Bad Batch and lied to the Empire about them surviving Kamino. Crosshair might face some repercussions from him. While Rampart can’t do anything overtly against Crosshair without revealing his own failure, it does open the door for a more subtle punishment for Crosshair in future episodes.
