Tomo-Chan is a Girl! Season 1 Review and Plot Summary
Tomo Aizawa (voiced by Rie Takahashi) and Jun Kubot (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa) are best friends with a hilarious history. Until middle school, Jun assumed that Tomo was a boy, so it’s no surprise that he has yet to realize that Tomo is in love with him. Even after she tries to confess, Jun reads the situation wrong, forever leaving Tomo stuck in the friend zone, wondering how to get him to take her feelings seriously.
Despite the constant setbacks, Tomo is a girl who knows what she wants. Sometimes she gets nervous about trying a new approach, but she never lets that stop her from her goal of trying to get Jun to notice her as more than just one of the guys. Tomo doesn’t have all of the answers, but she does have several good friends who are more than willing to help her or provide her with advice when she needs it.

Tomo isn’t just this one-note character, but nobody is in real life. It’s always uplifting when you see a show acknowledge someone’s differences and show that they deserve to be treated well and loved anyway. Honestly, the best part about this show is Tomo and how she’s constantly challenging your expectations of her and what you assume she will be because of how she presents herself. The cast of supporting characters helps this show to stand out. Not only are they just as funny, but seeing how they support Tomo and one another is encouraging as well.
