The book series by Edo Van Belkom, Wolf Pack, is being adapted into a series for Paramount+ with the same name. The show follows a group of teenagers whose lives are changed forever after a wildfire awakes a supernatural killer. Does the first episode reel us into this little world? Let’s dive in.

Wolf Pack Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

The episode begins with an officer getting out of a car to see a massive wildfire looking over the city. Then, Everett is sitting on the bus talking to his therapist. Moments later, his doctor tells him that they are evacuating his building due to the fire, and he looks outside, and the fire is slowly overtaking their surroundings. Next, everyone on the bus gets a text saying that school is canceled. Finally, everyone on the bus does the same after seeing people leave their cars.

We see Everett get off the bus, and the animals start to flood out of the forest and kill people. As a car is about to hit Everett, Blake saves him. I’ll be honest. Having not read the books, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but these first few moments of the episode were quite intense. While visually, it was a little off at times, it was a solid tiny opening.

While all of this went down, both Everett and Blake were wounded. The former heads to the hospital as his shoulder is bleeding quite badly. At Blake’s house, her dad is freaking out quite a bit because they are trying to get on the road. At this time, we see this mysterious creature standing in the shadows. Everett grabs her brother and heads to the car. The doctor informs Everett that he will be okay but freaks out when he finds out they called his parents.

A mysterious call comes in where it tells Everett he must leave the hospital before it gets him. Of course, he was confused, but the person on the phone said that he was bitten and that it must find and kill him before the next full moon. Now, we see the same things happening to Everett at the hospital started to occur to Blake. She visualizes Everett at the hospital and heads to see him.

We finally meet Harlan, who is at a club and is having a good time. He had a few texts from his sister, who was trying to get ahold of them, but he ignored them to have fun with the DJ. However, in the middle of having fun, Luna shows up to interrupt him to let him know about their dad being missing. She wanted him to go with her to find their dad, but he didn’t care to go until she said that her sense of smell had been heightened. He mentions his hearing is on the next level. Both note that it usually happens during a full moon, but the full moon isn’t for a few days.

The police arrived at the hospital looking for any teenagers on the bus who had been admitted. A chain of events happens where we see Harlan and Luna get to the truck and see how bad it is, followed by the reuniting of Everett (who just ran from the hospital) and Blake. Next, Harlan and Luna talk about their real father and how he might be coming for both of them. Then, Everett begins to realize that things on his body are changing.

Ending Explained

While the kids search the woods for Garrett, he realizes that his time might end as the flames around him start to cave in on him. Because of this, he leaves a little recording to both kids, reminding them of the good in life. Afterward, he fights through the woods to try to make it out.

The mysterious creature shows up at Blake’s house, freaks out both of them, and heads on the run together. The two of them get to a safe spot, where Blake says she has to leave to get to her dad and brother. He tries to stop her, but she leaves. The episode comes to a close with Everett getting a phone call from Kristen asking for his help to find out who is responsible for the deaths of all these people, including his friends. She follows that by saying she believes that someone that was on that school bus was the one that started the fire. After she hangs up, this loud noise overtakes Blake, Everett, Luna, and Harlan, and they all head to the same space, meeting for the first time. Blake and Everett realize they are now wolves themselves.
