We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 2 Episode 5, “So This Is Your Room, Huh, Senpai?,” which contains spoilers.

Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 2 Episode 4, fans got their first introduction to Nagatoro’s big sister. While her goal may have been to embarrass Nagatoro (voiced by Sumire Uesaka) a bit in front of her Senpai, the evening ended on a positive note, with Senpai even learning Nagatoro’s real first name. It was a much-needed step in Nagatoro and Senpai’s progress. With the tables turned this week and him being the sick one, maybe it will be Nagatoro’s turn to finally learn his name as well.

Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 2 Episode 5 recap

The episode opens with Nagatoro running up to Senpai on the way to school. He suddenly remembers learning her first name the night before and imagines using it before quickly changing his mind.

With both Nagatoro and Senpai blushing and avoiding eye contact, things feel awkward between them. However, after grabbing his sleeve and surprising him, Nagatoro reveals she has been copying tactics she read in a magazine about flustering boys. Senpai denies feeling anything, which causes Nagatoro to annoy him in disbelief. In retaliation, he attempts to grab her sleeve in return but accidentally grabs her hand instead. When Nagatoro’s friends catch them, she adamantly denies holding hands with him.

Nagatoro visits her sick Senpai

Senpai wakes up sick and ends up staying home from school alone. Nagatoro is surprised not to see him on her walk to school that morning and goes looking for him in the art room. When she doesn’t find him there, she sends a series of texts to his phone asking where he is. After learning he’s sick, she calls to check in on him, only to learn he’s home alone. So after school, Nagatoro shows up at Senpai’s house to check on him. He’s flattered by the idea, but she quickly makes an excuse, saying she thought he had passed out when no one answered.

As his cold begins to get worse, Nagatoro suggests Senpai lie down in his bed. She’s surprised by how neat it is, but immediately sets out on a search for something naughty. Their banter causes Senpai to go into a coughing fit, and she immediately ushers him to bed.

When Senpai can’t remember where the house thermometer is, Nagatoro tells him not to worry about it. She instead takes his temperature by placing her forehead against his. As Senpai’s face turns bright red, Nagatoro declares that he has a fever. With his cold only worsening, Nagatoro stays to take care of him, placing a cold towel on Senpai’s forehead and bringing him fluids.

Senpai’s fantasy

As he grows dizzy from his fever, Senpai begins to fantasize about a future where and Nagatoro are married. She stays home from work to take care of him and feed him. However, he does not seem to realize that Nagatoro is also feeding him in real life. In his daze, he goes to thank Nagatoro but accidentally uses her first name.

How does Nagatoro react to Senpai using her first name?

It takes a moment for Nagatoro to process Senpai using her first name. Once she does, she immediately freaks out but quickly sees this as an opportunity to tease Senpai. She tries to get him to repeat himself, but Senpai has already fallen asleep. After multiple failed attempts, she pleads for him to say it one more time, even offering to kiss him if it’s something he would be okay with. Before she can find out, Senpai’s mother comes home.

Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained

Senpai wakes up the next morning feeling much better. After apologizing for coming home so late, his mother takes the opportunity to ask him about the “cute girl” he had over the night before. She then relays how she met Nagatoro on her way out of the door and asks if they are dating, which Senpai assures her they are not.

On his way to school, he thinks back on the fantasy he had the night before. Although he remembers using Nagatoro’s first name, he cannot decipher which parts of his fantasy were dreams and which were reality. When he runs into Nagatoro, things feel awkward again, but he thanks her for helping him anyway. Just when he thinks things are okay between them again, Nagatoro begins paying Senpai back for yesterday by pretending to judo flip him when her friends catch them messing around.

Although Nagatoro did not learn Senpai’s name this time around, viewers were still treated to a delightful episode. This show alternates between funny moments and more romantic moments rather well, so neither ever feels out of place. I enjoy the tension the way it’s slowly building the tension between Nagatoro and Senpai because their relationship never feels forced. It’s allowed to progress naturally, including everything from the sweet moments to the awkward ones as well.

It will be interesting to see how if and when Nagatoro’s interest in kissing Senpai comes back into play anytime soon. It’s definitely the kind of confession the series won’t be able to ignore forever. However, if that happens, it’s sure to be a satisfying moment.
