Break Point (2023)

This five-episode Netflix original series follows tennis players preparing for ATP Tour, the highest-level tournament for male players. A second part of the series focusing on professional female players is set to come out in June 2023. 

Last Chance U (2016 – 2020)

This Netflix documentary lasted five seasons and told the story of the East Mississippi Community College’s junior football team. What makes this series stand out is the behind-the-scenes focus on the players’ backgrounds and how much impact the football program has on their lives. Many players come from disadvantaged home environments, and the opportunity to play sports professionally is nothing less than a lifeline. 

Formula 1: Drive To Survive (2019 – )

Produced by James Gay-Rees, this docudrama follows Formula 1 drivers behind the wheel and in their personal lives. A must-watch for race fans, this show provides insight into what it takes to thrive as a professional race car driver. 

Being Serena (2018)

Having won four Olympic medals and 39 Grand Slam titles, Serena Williams is undoubtedly the Queen of the tennis court. In 2017 she became pregnant with her first child and gave a film crew unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to her life. This five-part emotionally raw HBO documentary is the result. 

Untold (2021 – 2022)

This series of Netflix sports documentaries show a different and less talked about side to professional athletics. From mental health struggles to lesser-known sports scandals, each documentary offers an honest and sobering perspective on the lives of its subjects. Some interviewed athletes include former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner, tennis player Mardy Fish and football player Manti Te’o’.

Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians (2019)

This eight-part series from India is the country’s first sports documentary to be featured on Netflix. Like The Test, the series follows a professional cricket team as they try to win the Indian Premier League for a second time.
