Summary

Senpai shines this week, working up the courage to finally follow his heart to a very satisfying outcome.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 2 Episode 11, “Don’t You Miss Me, Senpai?” which contains spoilers.

Sometimes it can take the influence of outside forces to make you see what’s right in front of you. In Senpai’s case, the reintroduction of his old friend, Hana (voiced by Sayumi Suzushiro), may have been just what he needed to realize how much Nagatoro’s (voiced by Sumire Uesaka) presence means to him. Last week, Hana tried to convince Senpai to ask Nagatoro on a date. Here’s hoping he takes her advice and makes his first move, especially now that Nagatoro has already put her feelings and intentions out there.

Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 2 Episode 11 Recap

The episode opens right where the last one left off, with Senpai reacting to the idea of asking Nagatoro on a date. The more he thinks about it, the more nervous he gets, questioning why they would go somewhere together and whether Nagatoro would even say yes.

Despite leaving school late, Hana tells Senpai she’s OK because someone is picking her up. Just then, the former art club president, Sunomiya, pulls up to grab Hana on her motorcycle. When Hana tells her older cousin the predicament Senpai is in, Sunomiya suggests he follow his heart.

Nagatoro asks Senpai if he misses her as they walk home from school, and he admits he misses her.

How does Nagatoro react when Senpai asks about her day off?

After Nagatoro admits she wishes there was a way for them to hang out more, Senpai nervously asks if there is somewhere she’d like to go on her day off. She immediately begins teasing Senpai, asking what he means by the question. She gives him several farfetched replies, like the South Pole and Space at first, before Senpai tells her to forget he asked.

When Senpai grows discouraged, Nagatoro immediately stops joking and suggests they could hang out somewhere nearby instead. She then says Senpai should pick the location. He thinks of places like the movies, or the racetrack, trying to gauge her tastes, but before he can think of anything, the two part ways on their walk home.

Does Senpai ask out Nagatoro?

After seeing a penguin sign on the street, Senpai remembers Nagatoro mentioning wanting to see them. Knowing where he wants to take her, Senpai turns around and runs toward Nagatoro to ask if she wants to go to the aquarium with him.

Although he fears Nagatoro will make fun of him like usual, she is excited by his invitation, eagerly agreeing to go with him.

How does Hana react when Senpai tells her about his date with Nagatoro?

At school, Hana notices that Senpai seems a bit out of it. Since she suggested it, Senpai tells her about his upcoming date with Nagatoro, to which Hana immediately congratulates him. Although he claims it is not a date, she congratulates him anyway.

Why do Nagatoro’s eyes make Gamo nervous?

When Nagatoro decides not to visit Senpai after practice that day, Gamo and Yoshi are afraid she’s going to drop him at first. However, after seeing her eyes, Gamo says she looks more like someone “leaving the best for last” and fears this could be bad, thinking that Nagatoro is really after Senpai’s virginity.

There were many fun, cute moments in this episode that made it easy to enjoy and laugh at. Adding Hana to the cast, I think, has worked out well, as Senpai has always been a bit lacking in the friend department. It’s nice to see how he acts around other characters, especially female characters that Nagatoro isn’t immediately jealous of.

One of the best parts of this episode was when Senpai turned around to run back to Nagatoro and ask her out. It felt like a moment pulled straight from a romantic comedy script with the dramatic music and the dialogue. You could quickly tell that this was a defining moment in their relationship.
