Summary

This episode seemed slower than the last few; it answered several important questions. It feels like viewers can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 Episode 11, “Jailbreak,” which contains spoilers.

It’s hard not to be surprised by each episode with a series as unpredictable as Bungo Stray Dogs, but no one could’ve seen the ending of episode 10 coming. Although viewers finally know who the fifth Hunting Dog is, that information comes at the potential price of Yosano’s life. Whether or not Tachihara spared her remains to be seen, but with their checkered past, it isn’t very likely. While we can only hope her gift abilities will save her now, as it seems the Armed Detective Agency has only gained another lifelong enemy in the process.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 Episode 11 Recap

The episode opens with Mushitaro writing a letter to his deceased friend Yokomizu as he resides in captivity. Suddenly, Atsushi and Kyoka emerge from the ceiling, ready to break him out.

Despite his reluctance to share his knowledge on the Decay of Angels with them, Mushitaro caves at using the word “manuscript.” Ranpo told Kyoka to bring it up, knowing Mushitaro would not be able to resist if they did. Although frustrated that they are using the manuscript against him, Mushitaro still agrees to escape with them, only to try unsuccessfully to sabotage the group as they sneak out.

What organization is Ango Sakaguchi the head of?

When he sees Ango and his men surrounding the bank, Mushitaro explains that Ango Sakaguchi is the head of a criminal organization called the Seventh Agency. It’s a government-run group that cleans up crime scenes, creates cover-ups for political scandals, and more.

In the past, they’ve used Mushitaro’s skills, and he knows if he’s captured again now, he’ll be held captive by the group forever.

How do Mushitaro, Atsushi, and Kyoka escape the bank?

As Ango and his men close in on them, Mushitaro sees a vision of Yokomizu, who compares their situation to that of a well-written mystery novel, giving him an idea. They quickly hide inside one of the bank vaults, disappearing by the time Ango and his troops check the room. There’s no sign they dug out to escape, leaving the organization stumped when in reality, Mushitaro used Kyoka’s ability, Demon Snow, to distract Ango down the hall as they hid in a different room and snuck out. Still, despite making it safely to a nearby alley, Ango manages to catch them before they can entirely disappear into the sewers.

After capturing them, Ango reveals that his ability allows him to extract memories of the items he touches, which will enable him to see what they are up to. The group is sure it’s over for them when Ango pulls out his and takes three shots. However, instead of shooting the trio, he only pretends to before pushing them into the sewers. After throwing his troops off their trail, Ango helps them escape via car instead and reveals that he has been secretly working with Dazai to aid them this entire time.

Knowing that all prisoners at Mersault are equipped with vital sign monitors, Dazai manipulates his heart rate to send messages. Ango then uses his government access to retrieve the information and decode the messages.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 Episode 11 Ending Explained

Despite Ango’s willingness to help, Mushitaro is still skeptical because he works for the government. It is then that Ango reveals he does not work for the Seventh Agency and that Fyodor lied to keep the two men from ever engaging with one another out of fear.

In order to speak freely and safely, the group head to Anne’s chamber to see Lucy and hear Ango’s explanation. Although he’s not with the Seventh Agency, Ango reveals he used their services only once to erase Dazai’s past crimes, allowing him to live outside the Port Mafia. He also tells them he believes there is a spy inside of the government, making it impossible to trust anyone.

Knowing that Fyodor tried to keep them apart on purpose, Ango asks Mushitaro to reveal what information Fyodor was trying so hard to hide from him. Mushitaro tells them what he knows about the Decay of Angels, including that Fyodor is not the real leader.

While he does not know their end goal, he says their plan has multiple steps, and they are currently on the “erasure of the state.” With the reality-altering page they used to frame the Armed Detective Agency, the Decay of Angels plan to carry out part four on the next full moon, giving the group 10 days to come up with a way to steal the page and write that the Agency is innocent on it instead.

With each week, there’s a new twist I did not see coming that completely changes the mission’s trajectory, and I love it. Even though it wasn’t as intense as usual, I felt like I was still on my toes all episode as the group tried to escape. The jumping between characters and stories each week can get a little tiresome and overwhelming at times, but knowing that everything you see is somehow connected makes it a little easier to tolerate. It feels like everything is finally starting to fall into place, connecting all the little dots from this season, and I’m excited to see how that plays out.
