Perry Mason has been a literary and TV icon for the last century, but his prestige makeover on HBO in 2020 was a new look for the character, bringing with it a new backstory, tone, and format. With handsome period production and a season-long mystery, not to mention an overabundance of HBO’s trademark adults-only grit, the first season was a compelling and well-acted mystery and we’re back for more in the anticipated sophomore outing.
Here’s what happened in Perry Mason Season 2 Episode 4:
- Paul, after some deliberation, revealed to Perry that the Gallardo brothers had indeed shot Brooks McCutcheon. After some pressing, they confessed.
- This doesn’t answer the question of why, though, and their explanation isn’t satisfactory. Paul bribed the gun dealer who revealed they rented the murder weapon every day to practice with it, which required a degree of funding beyond their means.
- This means that the brothers were surprisingly flush with cash, implying someone paid them to kill Brooks. But who?
- Perry spent most of the episode sulking, flirting with Miss Aimes, and joyriding Lydell McCutcheon’s prize racehorse. He also socked a man in the face at Teddy’s school, but Miss Aimes seemed to enjoy this, and ended up visiting him at his apartment in the middle of the night.
