While Ketil (voiced by Hideaki Tezuka) and his family being forced to go on the run isn’t the most ideal scenario, the idea that this could finally be the thing that reunites Leif (Yoji Ueda) and Thorfinn (Yuto Uemura) is one viewers have been waiting for all season.
As they rush back to the farm, fans can only hope they return before Canute (voiced by Kensho Ono), and his men come to seize everything, or things could get violent. While everyone back on the farm waits for them to return, their lives continue, with Thorfinn and Ketil working what could be their last season here.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 13 Recap
The episode begins inside a house that is currently on fire. Inside, a man begs a former slave for his life, even promising to be his slave in return.
Although he does not get along with the other farmhands, Einar tells Thorfinn that he is considering staying on the Ketil’s farm in hopes that Arnheid will one day earn her freedom as well.
While talking to Einar and Thorfinn about Sverkel’s whereabouts, Snake suddenly takes off on horseback, telling them to follow him. They soon find Sverkel collapsed facedown in the field.
Who does Fox come to warn Snake about?
Worried, Fox rides around the farm looking for Snake to warn him about an escaped slave he heard killed his owner and sons. The rumor is the slave set fire to their house.

While chopping wood, Einar and Arnheid catch Thorfinn eavesdropping on Snake reading the bible to Sverkel. Although he is not a Christian, Thorfinn finds the bible interesting.
Does the escaped slave kill Fox, Lizard, and Badger?
When Fox, Lizard, and Badger attempt to capture the escaped slave in exchange for the reward, he overhears them and manages to escape, killing Lizard in the process.

As he rides away on a stolen horse, Arnheid recognizes the escaped slave, calling him “Gardar.” Gardar immediately stops his horse, happy to have finally located Arnheid, his wife.

I should’ve known better than to expect Leif and Thorfinn would be reunited in this episode. Although I didn’t get the reunion I thought, the one we did get was wholly unexpected but welcomed. I wondered if we would learn more about Arnheid, and the introduction of her old husband, especially when Einar is about to be freed, has just made things that much more interesting.
This episode definitely set the tone for the second half of the series, and if things continue to be this surprising, it’ll only get better from here.
