Things heated up this week as the imprisoned Gardar escaped along with Arnheid (Mayumi Sako). Now that he’s added even more bodies to his life, Snake (Fuminori Komatsu) is more determined to find him than ever.
While tension on the farm only seems to be growing, Thorfinn (Yuto Uemura) has been trying to shy away from violence as a means of repentance for his old sins.
With Gardar roaming free, however, it seems unlikely that Thorfinn will not get dragged into the fight. If and when that happens, it will be interesting to see if he sides with Snake and Ketil (voiced by Hideaki Tezuka) or chooses to help Arnheid and Gardar instead.
- Arnheid attempts to visit Gardar during a storm.
- Snake tries to refuse her, but Arnheid convinces the man guarding her to at least let her tend to Gardar’s wounds.
- Arnheid does not free Gardar despite his asking repeatedly.
- As the rain gets worse, most of the guards head inside, leaving Arnheid, Gardar, and the guard who escorted her to the guest quarters alone.
- Gardar attacks the remaining guard, biting a hole in his neck and killing him.
- Gardar instructs Arnheid to grab the dead guard’s knife and cut his restraints before they are both killed.
- Arnheid frees Gardar, and he murders the remaining guards.
- Thorfinn and Einar talk about the future.
- Thorfinn speaks to Einar about creating a world with less war and suddenly remembers a place Leif told him about across the ocean without slaves or war.
- Although Thorfinn and Einar think this would be the perfect place to head when free, but Thorfinn does not know how to get there without Leif.
- Fox and the other guards raid Thorfinn and Einar’s sleeping quarters in search of Gardar.
- The episode ends with Einar worrying about Arnheid as Snake prepares his sword.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 16 Release Date and Time
Episode 16 will be released on both Netflix and Crunchyroll on Monday, April 24th, 2023. The release time is 11:30 a.m E.T. Episode 16 is titled “Cause” and will have a run time of approximately 23 minutes.

Predictions
While I predicted things would go badly, I could never have guessed they would end up this bad. Arnheid still has yet to tell Gardar about the fate of their son. Their meeting still ended terribly anyway. Luckily for him, Gardar managed to escape before he was executed, but now Snake is only that much more determined to capture and kill him.
- In the preview for next week, it looks like Thorfinn, Einar, and Arnheid all manage to meet up. I feel that Thorfinn and Einar may end up helping Arnheid escape the farm with Gardar.
- Every time we see Sverkel, he only looks sicker. In all the commotion, I could see him passing away while Snake is distracted trying to find Gardar.
