We discuss the ending of the 2023 Netflix film AKA, which will contain spoilers.
When it comes to agents going undercover, the writing for these characters and the mission has to be written well. In AKA, the perspective is unique because of the focus on the young boy who has to live as the son of a mob boss.
The young boy sees how his father operates and still wants to be loved by him, even though he treats him poorly. His father could not be bothered with showing affection, hurting his son.
The film does go through themes of fatherhood and instantly having that instinct as a parent to protect the child. Here, the special agent takes on the nurturing role without even meaning to, as he is deep undercover.
In order to get to know the mob boss he’s taking down, he goes through the connection with the son to gain a different angle.
It’s sad to see how out of touch the father is with his son because his wife is entirely against how he treats him. We see the home life with the work life and how messy it can get when you combine the two. When they bleed into each other, that is when you begin to lose your sense of self, and that’s what happens in AKA.
Action crime thrillers have been a Netflix specialty recently as they’ve done some unique projects. Aka is a crime thriller that puts a special ops agent in a difficult predicament as he infiltrates a crime syndicate and befriends the son of the boss he’s trying to take down.
AKA Ending Explained
What happens with Adam Franco?
In the end, Adam Franco is unfortunately caught, but the mission was a success for Moktar and his daughter. When the bomb went off and injured her, Moktar was determined to find a way to make her survive, and he did, since Adam considered him a threat to his country. However, his connection to the mob boss’s son helps him make a different decision.
He understands the love someone can have for a child and that they would do anything for them. Since he was ordered to shoot Moktar and kill him, considering the long line of history with the French and Sudanese civilians, he made the conscious choice not to.
What happens with Moktar?
Even though Adam had the breakthrough for his own morals, Marconnet still had the final order and ended up killing him. It was an ambush, and Adam was completely blindsided by it.
How do Jonathan and Helene go on?
After everything went down, Adam decided to put Jonathan in child protective services. It was the only way to know in his mind that he was safe. Helen does end up leaving prison, but she needs a serial number to get to Jonathan. In order to get it, she meets with Adam, but there was a blindside set up with Kruger. Adam did know this, so before he got into the car, he switched sides with Helene. In doing so, Adam had a clear shot of Kruger and killed him to protect Helene.
