This article discusses the possibility of Wave Makers Season 2 and the renewed or cancelled status of the Taiwanese Netflix drama.

The star-studded Taiwanese political drama Wave Makers, from director Lin Chun-yang and screenwriters Jian Li-ying and Yan Shi-ji, is currently streaming its entire eight-episode season on Netflix.

The show revolves around the opposition party campaign staff during a presidential election, facing professional and personal hurdles at the mercy of a fickle electorate and a ruthless 24-hour news cycle.

Here’s a quote from our review:

This is one of many important themes raised by screenwriters Jian Li-ying and Yan Shi-ji. Among them are the ins and outs of political campaign strategy, the intense demands of civil service and public office, image, and, very notably, sexuality, especially since Wen-fang is homosexual which doesn’t go unnoticed or unleveraged throughout the campaign.

Fans of the show may be wondering about its potential future, so here’s everything we know.

Will there be a Wave Makers Season 2 on Netflix?

Renewed or cancelled status: TBC

At the time of writing, Netflix haven’t given an official update on the future of Wave Makers.

The show boasts a star-studded cast, and it won’t be easy to assemble the same line-up due to potential scheduling conflicts, so any news of a renewal would likely come a good while before any production begins.

However, Wave Makers probably isn’t the kind of show that will garner widespread attention on a platform like Netflix, which excels in digestible content that voracious viewers can gobble down in a single session.

Wave Makers, with its runtime of eight hours and thematically heavy political subject matter, isn’t especially well-suited to the binge-drop model. That said, recent political dramas on the platform – notably The Diplomat – have been well-received.

Though, Wave Makers still has the additional hurdle of not being in English, which has been proven to influence a show’s overall popularity. Some viewers don’t like subtitles, some don’t like dubs; either way, it’s another potential barrier to entry for a show that isn’t likely to set the streaming world alight.

We’ll let you know more once we do, but in the meantime, our official prediction is that Wave Makers will not be renewed for a second season.
