In a funny and endearing episode of Ted Lasso, things go off the rails for some characters.

Meanwhile, Ted bonds with his ex-wife during parent-teacher meetings, and Jade (Edyta Budnik) visits Nate (Nick Mohammed) at his office, which catches the eye of his boss, West Ham owner Rupert (Anthony Head).
However, the most crucial storyline is Isaac (Kola Bokinni) still giving Colin (Billy Harris) the cold shoulder.
Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 9 Recap
Why is Rebecca mad at Roy?
Rebecca is mad at Roy because instead of handling the press conference as she directed, Roy gave it to Coach Beard. As a result, Beard gets into an argument with the press over Joe Walsh and Jimmy Page. Beard claims Joe Walsh is a better guitarist than Jimmy Page, who he calls a “guitar stenographer on Adderall,” and “Stairway to Heaven” a “glorified fingering exercise.”
Rebecca demands Roy come to her office. Roy apologizes, saying he didn’t think it was a big deal, but his remarks were not sincere.
Rebecca demands to know what Roy wants and then calls him frustratingly “ponderous” as he won’t take life by the horns and take control over things he deserves in life.
Why is Isaac not talking to Colin?
Isaac is being cold to Colin, possibly due to something he found on Colin’s cell phone, but it’s unclear because it has yet to be verbalized. Isaac won’t grab a beer with Colin after work, won’t shake his hand, and pulls his hand out of the group huddle when Colin places his hand on top of Isaac’s.
Colin approaches Crimm because he’s the only one who knows his secret of being gay. Trent tells Colin he needs to give him time, as it may take longer for others.
Why did Isaac confront a fan in the stands?
While walking into the locker room at halftime, Isaac ran into the stands to challenge a fan who described the team’s play with a homophobic slur. The discontent between Isaac and Colin was affecting the team’s performance. As a result, Isaac is given a red card and is sent off.
In the locker room, the team is informed of the slur. Isaac laments that they shouldn’t have to be subject to that kind of abuse and leaves, followed by Roy, who tells him that his anger is being displaced by something else.
Back in the locker room, the guys assume Isaac is gay and openly support his sexual orientation. However, Colin knows the truth and stands up to speak.
How does Colin tell the team he’s gay?
Colin tells the team he is gay in the locker room after his teammates assume Isaac is upset because he may be gay himself. His teammates and coaches support Colin and tell him they are behind him “1,000%.” Still, Ted stops the team to offer some folksy wisdom, including comparing Colin’s sexual orientation to being a Denver Broncos fan.
Ted tells a story about how his friend came out as gay in the late ’90s and watched his favorite team win back-to-back Super Bowls by himself. The moral of the story is that he supported his friend but wasn’t necessarily with him. This teaches the team that talk is cheap.

The team returns after the half and wins two to one because Colin was the “man of the match,” assisting on both goals and leading Richmond to victory.
Why does Nate change his mind about his guy’s night out with Rupert?
Nate changes his mind about his guys’ night out with Rupert when he realizes his boss will use the evening to have an extramarital affair with one of the two women he brought to the restaurant. (Knowing Rupert, he probably will sleep with both.) Nate is not a “player” and doesn’t sleep around. He knows he has a good thing going with Jade and doesn’t want to risk it.
This is nothing new for Rupert since we have evidence he is cheating on his wife with his secretary earlier in the season.
However, Rupert was also hitting on Jade earlier in the episode. Nate knows he doesn’t want the kind of lifestyle his boss craves. Nate returns to Jade’s apartment, and when she opens the door, he hugs her because he has found someone he genuinely wants to spend time with and who loves him.
Why does Roy show Isaac love?
Ted has Roy do the press conference and shows Isaac love because you never know what someone is going through. After calling out members of the press with such names as “Five-o’clock-shadow head,” “old-Trent,” and “Goblin King,” Roy tells a touching story of how he made an inappropriate joke to an old timer when he was young and was beaten “proper” for it.
He only found out later that the man’s wife had a miscarriage a month before that distasteful joke. This is a moment where Roy looks like a leader of men and could be a future head coach.
Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 9 Ending Explained
What does Colin say to Isaac?
Colin tells Isaac, “I love you, boyo,” when Isaac visits him at home. Isaac is angry at Colin for lying and not trusting him, but Colin explains that he has been hiding his true self for years. They talk about Colin’s preferences, and he jokes that he loves Isaac but only in a friendly way. Isaac admits he can’t say it back but assures Colin, “You know I do, yeah?”
