Summary
There’s not a dull moment in this week’s episode, giving viewers everything from intense action to unexpected reveals and even a little hope toward the end.
We recap the Crunchyroll and Netflix anime series Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 19, “War at Ketil’s Farm,” which contains spoilers.
Thorfinn (Yuto Uemura), Einar (Shunsuke Takeuchi), and Arnheid (Mayumi Sako) were all forced to face the consequences of their actions last week, and at least for Arnheid, it did not end well.
Whether or not she survives the beating Ketil (Hideaki Tezuka) gave her remains to be seen, but her chances do not seem high. While circumstances are looking slightly better for Thorfinn and Einar, thanks to Leif’s arrival, things on the farm only seem to be getting worse with Canute’s impending arrival.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 19 Recap
The episode opens with Ketil gathering 350 men to fight with him. Fox asks Snake if he thinks they have a chance against Canute, especially considering most of the men are not fighters, but Snake says they don’t know their enemy is the king. Most men are just there to have their debts erased.
Does Thorfinn leave with Leif?
With Canute’s army closing in, Thorfinn considers leaving with Leif but chooses to stay behind with Einar and Arnheid instead. So Leif says they can wait another day to see if Arnheid’s condition improves.
What does Canute’s messenger tell Ketil?
Canute sends a messenger to Ketil to inform him that after being sentenced to 10 years of outlawry, his family’s life is only being spared as a courtesy. Usually, these crimes warrant capital punishment, the messenger says before telling them to flee, or Canute will expect an answer by morning.
Canute’s army contains around 100 men, less than a third of Ketil’s. Although Canute has fewer men, all of his men are skilled fighters.

Having known the real “Iron Fist Ketil” back when he was young, Snake knows that this Ketil is not the real legend but a fraud. Ketil deceives everyone by letting them believe he is the same legendary warrior as “Iron Fist Ketil” because they have the same name.
Do Thorfinn and Einar escape the farm with Leif?
As Ketil engages in war with Canute, Thorfinn, Einar, and even Arnheid escape the farm with Leif and Bug-Eyes.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 19 Ending Explained
Arnheid slowly wakes up, although she is still frail. At the same time as Canute’s men seem to massacre Ketil’s men in the distance, Thorgil slowly sneaks up behind Canute with the intent to kill him.
I’m almost torn after watching this week’s episode because, despite the impressive storytelling, I almost don’t want to see it end like this. However, these are the realities of war; if nothing else, Vinland Saga has always managed to embody that to a tee.

Still, it was exciting to see the action and fighting that surely captivated many viewers back in season one. Once again, this series fails to disappoint.
