The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a period drama-comedy by creator Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls). This Prime Video original series has been one of the longest-running shows for the streaming platform, now entering its fifth season in 2023 after launching in 2017.
The show focuses on Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan), a housewife who becomes a stand-up comedian after her husband Joel (Michael Zegen) leaves her in dramatic style.
In the latest season, she attempts to break into the big time and takes a job writing for the Gordon Ford Show, hoping to one day star on the show itself.
Helping her to gain fame and notoriety is her determined and cutthroat manager Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein), who happens to be entangled with the mob.
Adding to Midge’s troubles are her manic parents, Abe (Tony Shalhoub) and Rose Weissman (Marin Hinkle), who look after Midge’s two eccentric children whenever they aren’t working themselves.
The series has been a real success story for Prime Video, but will they be eager to renew the series for a sixth season?
Will there be a Season 6 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – renewed or canceled status
Season five of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will sadly be the show’s final season. Prime Video has canceled the series after five seasons and six years of production. However, they have worked with the creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino to ensure that the fifth season concludes satisfactorily.
Amy Sherman-Palladino stated in interviews that she had had the ending in mind for quite a while now. It seems that this cancellation is amicable, and this decision doesn’t affect the integrity of the final season. This news will surely please fans of the show, who want the series to end in a respectable and appropriate way.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been a real crowd-pleaser for Prime Video, achieving stunning critical acclaim and numerous awards over the years. The fifth season currently holds a 94% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes (May 17th, 2023)
Hopefully, the showrunners can end the series on a high and conclude Midge’s story in the best way possible.
There is no word on whether there will be any spin-off shows from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. However, Amy Sherman-Palladino has already signed on for a new TV series with Prime Video. She is in pre-production on Etoile, a drama series about two world-renowned ballet companies.
Interestingly, Prime Video has already signed a two-season deal with the creators of Etoile, so they must be confident that they are onto another winner with this one too.
I loved all five seasons of Mrs. Maisel. I am not at all happy with the final ending in episode eight.
If Prime Video worked with the creator and producer to make sure that the final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ended satisfactorily, They did a very poor job of it. I’m sorry I wasted my time watching it.
I do not think it was a good ending. It was a disappointing ending to a great show! A season six is definitely needed. Throwing in glimpses of their future during the episodes was not good enough.
If not a new season, but atleast 1 more episode was definitely needed to show a proper ending. How it went in the Gordon Show and how public reacted to her. I know we can infer it from previous episodes clips that she became famous, but 1 episode was really necessary to connect the dots and show her glory.
The final season was such a disappointment, that I would have rather the show ended without a 5th season.
The character of Midge was not as we had been given in the past seasons. and the 5th season, to me, lacked the cohesiveness that it deserved. The jumping around the years was just confusing and it appeared the writers were so desperate to try to includes so much into just 8 episodes, that we ,the viewers, were left scratching our heads, wondering WTF , and then we saw the credits. What a gross injustice to the amazing cast
I CAN’t think of a better way to completely ruin an amazing series
I two was totally not impressed. Such a good show. Everyone did a fantastic job. The ending of season 5 did not show the respect it certainly deserved. Come on people really??
Will you please continue this series with a season six and a season 7, and more seasons? There’s no reason not to continue the series now that the pandemic is over. This is a story line that can be continued, and continued. We like the characters and the actors and would like to see more about them please.
Totally unsatisfied!!!!
