The hilariously silly but gratingly self-serious Spanish thriller Muted, or El Silencio is a six-part Netflix series revolving around an ill-advised and ethically horrifying experiment.

He’s perfectly happy to talk openly to some people, such as the pastor he’s forced to meet with as part of his parole and the female prison pen pal with whom he starts up an ill-advised relationship. Will there be a Muted Season 2 on Netflix?

At the time of writing Muted has not been renewed for a second season.
While it’s often difficult to tell with Netflix’s international output, the chances of a second season of Muted feel slim. For one thing, it’s not very good. The implausibility of the premise and laughability of the execution will likely lead to an audience mocking the show rather than becoming truly invested in it.
This will likely result in a poor critical reception and unfavorable word of mouth, neither of which the streaming giant will be happy with. There’s also a good chance that viewers won’t be willing to watch until the end, even with only six episodes, and drop-off rate is a metric that Netflix treats incredibly serious.
While some may mistake the deliberately ambiguous ending for an effort to secure a renewal, there’s a better argument to be made that the unclear grace note is intended as a conclusion, not a sequel tease. There are really very few places subsequent seasons could go, since most subplots were neatly tied up.
