After a couple of strong episodes, “A Nod is Not a Hello” is a filler that adds little to the overall picture.

With two episodes remaining in High Desert, we are starting to see Peggy put things together to close the case on the disappearance of Dona. However, she leaves a small trail behind, causing the henchman and Nick to become very suspicious. We are in for a wild ride to the finish line.
High Desert Season 1 Episode 6 Recap
The episode starts with the henchman and his daughter chasing down Guru Bob to find out where their money is. He promises he has a buyer and will get his money soon, but the henchman isn’t happy that he made a fool of him about the whole painting being fake. Of course, he brings up Peggy and tries to call, but she rejects the call as she shows Bruce the finger that Judy threw up. She promises that this will help them get the reward money.
How does Peggy confirm the finger was Dona’s?
Bruce says they must withhold the finger from the cops, followed by telling her they must get the finger tested by DNA. However, Peggy tells him to separate the fingernail from the finger, and she’ll get an answer. We see Peggy at the nail salon asking one of the workers if they know whose nail it is, and this is when the lady confirms that it is Guru Bob’s wife, Dona. She mentioned she was a regular.
Peggy heads over to talk to Nick about “the book” she is writing and that it got approved for publishing, and she will be in contact soon. Bruce says that the finger will take a week to get the DNA results back. Finally, she tells Bruce about the henchman that will want their money. He freaks out, but she says not to worry, that she will save his business.
Denny has started to gather a following over his new qigong business. He begs Peggy to allow her to use the house to build his seed money. She reluctantly agrees and heads to get her pills which she is denied cause she won’t take a p**s test. The play is on the verge of being ready, but Peggy realizes that her mom look-alike, Ginger, is trying to take over. Because of this, she fires her.
The henchman gets Guru Bob to leave a voicemail for Peggy, saying they have pills at his house. Upon arriving, the henchman and his daughter snag her up and tie her to a chair. As she does with everything, Peggy convinces them that Kachel will be buying the painting and getting him his money.

How does Nick discover Peggy’s real identity?
While Peggy is using the undercover name of Sylvia to talk to Nick, the nail technician that Peggy met with earlier comes by Nick’s place to tell her that someone is snooping around about Dona. After they both talk about what she looks like, Nick puts two and two together and tells one of his guys to hunt her down.
