Where was Warrior Season 3 filmed – a breakdown of filming locations

Where was Warrior Season 3 filmed? We discuss the popular MAX series and the filming locations used by the production crew.

If you are going to do a martial arts TV series, then you could probably do worse than look at the writings of Bruce Lee.

It is hard to imagine anyone that did more than Bruce Lee to bring the genre to such a broad audience, and although his career finished way too soon, he left behind a concept and premise for a show in its third season.

The show is set in San Francisco in the 1870s. It follows protagonist Ah Sahm, a master of martial arts, who comes to America to find his missing sister but finds himself in the grip of one of the most dangerous societies in Chinatown.

Season 1 of the show performed well, and the ten-episode show was green-lit for another run, again with ten chapters.

Also doing well, the show has been renewed for a third outing, and fans could not be happier.

It is worth noting that the show was not always on Max. Seasons one and two were originally on Cinemax, that no longer produces original material, with Max picking up the project for season three.

If there is an air of familiarity to the show, it may be because the premise had already received an outing from the popular TV series Kung Fu starring David Carradine in 1972.

However, you can find comprehensive reviews for this show on Ready Steady Cut. Still, in the meantime, for all you location fans out there, this quick read will answer the question where was Warrior Season 3 filmed?

Where was Warrior Season 3 filmed – a breakdown of filming locations

Cape Town, South Africa

Like seasons one and two of the show, most filming would be done in Cape Town.

One of the main reasons for this location could be due to the financial side of things.

Filming and even building sets in South Africa can be less expensive for a show, making it worthwhile for production to set up camp there.

Controversially, the area has no union for workers, unlike many other locations, as the area is avidly seeking to entice production crews to film there, so labor is also cheaper, and working days can be longer.

Cape Town Film Studio

Warrior would use this studio for filming, and a whole set was built for the show to recreate the period setting in San Francisco.

The website for the studio states that “this is the first world-class, custom-built, Hollywood style, a film studio complex in Africa, and has been rated as the best film studio complex of its kind, in the developing world by international production executives.”

Shows such as Doctor Who and Good Omens have all used the facilities and locations in Cape Town for their location shooting.
