Summary

The finale is rushed and clumsily executed. There are more ridiculous plot twists and a purposely ambiguous ending to endure. It’s a disappointing conclusion overall, one that epitomizes the spiraling quality of the second half of the season.

We recap the Prime Video series The Horror of Dolores Roach Season 1 Episode 8, “Stop Me,” which contains spoilers and explains the Ending.

The season finale, “Stop Me,” focuses on Dolores’ (Justina Machado) plans to escape as the bodies continue to pile up and Luis (Alejandro Hernandez) takes extreme measures to protect his girlfriend. Then in the present day, Dolores makes one final play for salvation.

The Horror of Dolores Roach Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

After Jonah’s death, Luis and Dolores argue in the kitchen. Dolores blames Luis for this mishap. They drag Jonah’s body out of the freezer but are stumped when Nellie, Jonah’s partner, comes into work.

They hide Jonah’s corpse back in the freezer and lie about his whereabouts. Nellie is suspicious but accepts Luis and Dolores’ cover story.

Then the police questioned Luis. He continues to be cocky, and Dolores has to practically drag him away. They argue in the basement. Dolores wants to run. The jig is up. They have $15k and the cash Dolores has made from her massage business; she proposes that they run away with the little they have to avoid any jail time.

Despite the escalating issues, Luis doesn’t want to leave. This is his home, and he worries his legacy will be ruined if he flees.

Luis asks for more time to orchestrate one last plan to save them. Dolores gives him an hour before she leaves for good.

Why does Dolores kill Joy?

Dolores hides her bundles of cash inside the massage table. As she is packing up, Joy enters the basement, desperate for a massage. Joy is persuasive and won’t take no for an answer. Dolores argues with Joy but eventually relents. As she massages Joy, the anger grows inside of her, and she surrenders to her urges, snapping Joy’s neck. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Upstairs, Ruthie’s coworkers ask about their colleague’s whereabouts. Again, this is another individual who has gone missing and was last seen in this area.

Dolores finds the freezer door open and panics. Surprisingly the freezer is empty, Luis has moved all the evidence.

Back in the basement, Dolores confronts Luis. He’s already working on moving Joy’s body, though. He asks if Joy figured it all out. Dolores admits that she just snapped; she’s on the edge, and they need to leave now.

Luis promises Dolores that he has a plan and asks her to trust in him. This provokes Dolores further; she reaches breaking point and insults Luis, stating that he always makes everything worse.

What was Luis’ plan?

As they argue, police sirens fill the air. They’ve finally been caught. Luis hides Joy’s corpse in the bathroom. Dolores goes to the window and sees Nellie being arrested. Luis confesses he moved all the evidence to Sophia’s flat; then he made an anonymous tip about the bodies.

Dolores can’t believe that Luis would destroy Nellie’s life like that while making matters worse. The police will return and search the entire building now.

Dolores starts to reflect on all her terrible decisions, saying how she could’ve been happy here. But now she needs to flee.

The masseuse heads for the exit. Then Jeremiah makes a sudden appearance. He confronts Luis, laying out all the evidence he has on the killers. Luis retorts, calling Jeremiah crazy.

This ends in a fight, and Luis kills Jeremiah. Dolores witnesses yet another murder and decides to run.

How is Luis killed?

She makes it to the kitchen, but Luis won’t let her leave. He pleads with her to stay. Dolores kisses Luis one last time and then shoves his head into the fryer. This is how Dolores received her burn. Luis falls back in agony and inadvertently starts a fire in the kitchen. He then collapses and dies on the kitchen floor. Dolores comments on how Luis was deep-fried like all the other victims.

Dolores escapes as the police enter the burning building. She drives off in Jeremiah’s truck, fleeing the scene of the crime.

The Horror of Dolores Roach Season 1 Ending Explained

We revert back to the present day. Dolores has told her entire life story now. This ended with her spending the next four years on the run, searching for Dominic. Flora is mesmerized by this tale and now believes that Dolores herself is the victim.

Dolores disagrees, though, stating that she is the monster; she could have stopped this killing spree at any one time but chose to selfishly carry on.

Dolores admits that she cannot stop killing. If Flora or anyone else got in her way, she would happily resort to killing them. At the after-party, Dolores corners Caleb, the podcaster. Fearing his own death, Caleb promises that he can help her find Dominic.

The series ends with Dolores driving to the location Caleb spoke about. She knocks on the door and is greeted by an unknown character. The audience doesn’t get to see this individual, but Dolores is clearly familiar with them. She laughs hysterically before attacking them.
