We discuss whether there will be a Season 2 of the Amazon Prime Video series The Gryphon and its renewed or canceled status.
The Gryphon is a fantasy series from Germany (the original title being: Der Greif), which is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
This series is adapted from Der Greif, the 1989 novel by best-selling German fantasy and horror writer Wolfgang Hohlbein. There is a six-episode story arc which might not sound like a lot, especially for audiences to learn and immerse themselves in a new world.
However, this does make this series an easy binge-watch for supernatural, sci-fi, and horror fans.
While the plot is very much a straightforward mission to save someone you love and save humanity, it’s a lot more due to the supernatural-fantasy world audiences are introduced to.
The story surrounds three teenage misfits, Mark, Becky, and Memo, who are set on the task to save humanity from a power-hungry monster. On Mark’s 16th birthday, he learns that his family is connected to an alternate fantasy world called The Black Tower.
This nightmarish world is home to a seriously scary monster who poses a threat to humanity. The men in Mark’s family take part in a generational battle against this evil creature called The Gryphon.
When his brother Thomas goes missing, Mark thinks he’s stuck in this other dimension and now has to save him. This dangerous creature and his minions know Mark’s coming, so now the young hero must train and prepare to take on such a monster.
The series stars Jeremias Meyer, Zoran Pingel, and Lea Drinda as the trio and is written and created by Sebastian Marka and Erol Yesilkaya.
I think this series has gone under the radar, probably due to many series coming out in recent months and a lack of promotion from Prime Video in English-speaking countries.
This hasn’t stopped fans from calling this series a huge hit, and they are eager for a second season, but will there be one?
Will there be a Season 2 of The Gryphon – renewed or canceled status
At the time of writing, The Gryphon has not been renewed for a second season.
Prime Video has recently canceled a number of its Amazon Original series after one season. This includes Night Sky, Paper Girl, and Three Pines, shocking their many fans.
Therefore, even with its impressive average audience score on Rotten Tomatoes of 88%, there is a chance The Gryphon might not get a second season.
While a few critics have described the show as being a limited series, Amazon Prime hasn’t yet announced The Gryphon Season 2.
However, the ending of this series doesn’t finish Mark’s story; opening up the possibilities for a sequel, so not all is lost yet, fans. In fact, the way in which the series ended, I would be shocked if there wasn’t a second season.
