Swagger Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
Starting in New York City, the Mustangs take on Barnes Catholic. News of the article has spread like wildfire, leading to Jace and Crystal being inundated with online and in-person abuse. This tension is reflected on the court as the teammates argue amongst themselves.
The rival fans hurl abuse at the players, too, and of course, the game ends in their defeat. That night, Phil talks with his mother on the phone.
He tells her that it’s just an internet rumor; he wasn’t involved. Then Nick confronts Jace and Phil about the story. Again, Jace denies any wrongdoing, but Nick fears his career may be ruined now.
How does Jace respond to the online hate?
Jace reads more of the hurtful comments online and decides to make a stand. He posts a video immediately, confessing to instigating the attack alone. He takes full responsibility, saving Crystal and his three teammates in the process.
Back at home, Jenna is furious that Jace would do such a thing. This recording could undo all his hard work; it could seriously jeopardize his entire career.
Jenna even worries that Jace could go to jail for this confession. Jace defends himself but refuses to reveal the names of those that helped him out.
Next, Jace speaks with Crystal, who is also disappointed in him. She can’t believe that he went from saying that they should keep it a secret to then full-on confessing to the entire crime on TikTok.
Crystal believes the news story would have eventually died down if Jace had just let it be. She doesn’t want to be seen in public with Jace for the foreseeable future, either.
What happens because of Jace’s viral video?
At training, Ike speaks with Jace in private. He’s hurt that Jace lied to him, although there are more pressing matters. A few of Jace’s major offers have been rescinded due to the controversy and Jace’s video confession. Ike urges Jace to stop posting online and to keep his head down.
While Ike tries to keep Jace out of trouble, his mother seeks legal counseling. One of Alonzo’s recommendations, a woman called Erica, presumes that the police will reopen the investigation now and will want to question Jace. She proposes that Jace doesn’t talk to anyone.
The growing scandal needs to be dealt with by Cedar Cove too. Emory wants to suspend Jace indefinitely. Ike tries to reason with Emory, but it is no use. Emory needs to preserve the school’s image and reputation.
Who aided Jace in the attack?
Ike, Megan, and Naim all believe that Jace was aided by fellow players. They interrogate the entire team. Both Musa and Phil confess to their involvement in the attack, while Drew struggles to lie himself. Because of the suspension and the developing scandal, Amber breaks up with Jace.
With everyone against him, Jace runs away, spending a night with sister Jackie in Washington, DC. He then guest stars on Drew and Musa’s podcast, talking about his love of basketball. This helps Jace to remember why he is pursuing this career after all.
How do the players respond to Jace’s suspension?
In the next game, Jace is suspended, while Nick returns from his injury. The opponents’ fans dress as convicts to rile up their rivals. Phil, Musa, and Drew wear matching t-shirts defending Jace. They all protest the suspension and refuse to play.
Meanwhile, Crystal is bullied at her local gym. She defends herself and films the altercation.
Crystal states that people aren’t interested in the truth. She talks about how Jace protected her, that he doesn’t deserve all this hate. Jace watches the entire debacle online.
