“Love Sick” focuses on the gang’s plans to keep this precious place, which holds so many important memories from their youth and of Susannah’s life.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 3 Recap

Who is selling the summer house?

Conrad starts the episode by explaining the circumstances of this surprise sale. Aunt Julia, Susannah’s half-sister, is the one who is selling the place. Legally she now owns the summer house, and technically there is nothing they can do to stop the sale. Conrad and Jeremiah’s dad can’t afford to buy it, and they’d have to dip into their own trust funds to even attempt a counteroffer.

It seems Conrad found out about the sale a few days ago and has chosen to handle things on his lonesome. He has been in touch with his father and their financial team, but Belly and Jeremiah still offer to help out as well.

This home is the last thing that links them all together; they won’t give it up without a fight. The next day, Belly and Jeremiah drive to meet with Aunt Julia while Conrad tries to get in contact with his father again.

Elsewhere, Belly’s mother, Laurel, sets off for her New York trip, and Steven decides to make a surprise visit to Cousins Beach himself. He phones Taylor, and she asks him to tag along with him.

It looks like another road trip for another pair of awkward, hormonal teens.

Why is Steven conflicted?

They discuss Taylor’s boyfriend Milo and Steven’s argument with Belly on the way there. During this heart-to-heart, Steven admits to his mixed emotions. He’s grieving Susannah’s passing but is also excited about Princeton. Taylor tries to comfort him the best she can, offering her own advice.

Back at Cousins Beach, Belly and Jeremiah drive to Aunt Julia’s motel, hoping to persuade her to call off the sale.

On the way there, they discuss Conrad and his immature outbursts. Belly knows from past experience that Conrad pushes away those closest to him when he needs them the most.

What happened at Belly’s prom?

This is epitomized in a flashback sequence where Conrad and Belly go to prom together. He’s visibly sad and distant the whole night, worrying about his mom. Conrad realizes that his behavior is ruining Belly’s prom, and he asks to leave. This turns into another argument, with the couple breaking up in a melodramatic fashion out in the rain. Belly even hands him back her infinity necklace.

In the present, Belly and Jeremiah meet with Aunt Julia. No matter what they say, she won’t change her mind. She’s even hosting an open house tomorrow.

They argue with one another, and Jeremiah brings up Susannah’s funeral. Julia was too busy to attend, but she has managed to find time to sort out this financial matter. Bitterly, they drive off, having failed to make any headway.

On the drive home, Belly convinces Jeremiah to talk to Conrad, to get more involved in the negotiations. The brothers agree to speak with Dad together.

Their father won’t let them access their trust funds though, mentioning how important that money is for their future.

Their dad reiterates that there is nothing they can do. He lets slip that he has known about this deal since the funeral. Jeremiah ends the call abruptly, angered by the hopelessness of it all.

The brothers and Belly are all heartbroken. Ironically, this is the exact moment when Steven and Taylor make their surprise entrance.

Further flashbacks explain the frosty relationship between Belly and Conrad. At Susannah’s funeral, the friends and family are all grieving Susannah’s passing. Conrad plays a song, and Belly tries to be there for him.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 3 Ending Explained

What happened at Susannah’s funeral?

Later, she finds Conrad being comforted by another girl, Aubrey. This causes Belly to storm off. Conrad chases after her, and they make a real scene in the middle of the funeral. Belly is upset that Conrad won’t let her in. Conrad says that he regrets them ever getting together. Belly says that she hates him and goes to leave but trips. Her mother is clearly embarrassed and shuns her.

Because of this traumatizing scene, Belly is rightfully weary of Conrad back in the present. Conrad and Jeremiah speak in private after the phone call with Dad. They agree to keep fighting for the summer house; they are not giving up just yet. They even contemplate ruining Julia’s open house.

The episode ends with the teens watching a movie together. Conrad receives a text message and leaves. He then has a panic attack on the beach.
