Summary
A decent enough episode that moves along smoothly.
We recap the 2023 Netflix K-Drama series King the Land Season 1 Episode 9, which contains significant spoilers.
Though there wasn’t much in the way of eventfulness, this was a solid episode of King the Land. It’s nice to see Sa-rang (Im Yoon-ah) and Gu Won (Lee Jun-ho) are taking their relationship up a level, though Hwa-ran (Kim Seon-young) looks like she might soon get involved.
King the Land Season 1 Episode 9 Recap
What is Pyeong-hwa’s bad news?
As Sa-rang enjoys a cozy night with Gu Won, and Da-eul’s team meets their sales quota to afford themselves the promised incentive trip, Pyeong-hwa faces disappointment. The flight attendant doesn’t get her promotion to purser, despite smashing her performance targets.
Fortunately, Ro-un is on hand to comfort Pyeong-hwa, reminding his colleague of her value as a flight attendant and that her true goal of being “a part of beautiful flights” doesn’t strictly require a promotion.
Following this, we move to the next day, where Gu Won and Sa-rang are happily playing around with the secretiveness of their relationship.
How does Hwa-ran respond to Gu Won’s intention of running the hotel?
While Sa-rang begins to bond with her King the Land co-workers, thanks to her notebook of restaurant recommendations, Gu Won bluntly puts himself forward to run the entire hotel in place of Hwa-ran. The wealthy heir’s father is interested in this proposition, so he declares he’ll consider it after completing the 100th-anniversary event his son is in charge of.
Later, Gu Won upsets Sa-rang by rejecting the hug she had offered as an apology for “begging” him to leave her alone at work. So he seeks the advice of Sang-sik, only to find himself increasingly irritated by his friend’s allegation that he mustn’t be knowledgeable about dating.
Elsewhere, Hwa-ran insists her brother won’t gain power and begins to send invites out to people “on her side” for the King Group anniversary event, knowing that it’ll help in her bid to take down Gu Won.
How does Gu Won bond with Soon-hee?
After stopping Sa-rang’s grandmother, Soon-hee, from dangerously falling, Gu Won takes her to the hospital. There, the elder advises the Head Manager to “sincerely” express his feeling towards her granddaughter before humorously suggesting he “signs up” to become a candidate for the concierge’s hand in marriage. Regarding Sa-rang herself, she is tearful over her grandmother’s condition but receives assurance she will be receiving the necessary treatment.
When Gu Won and Sa-rang get some alone time, they patch up their issues from earlier, and the wealthy heir confesses his feelings. This declaration is reciprocated with a kiss, and the two subsequently spend the night sharing a room together. “I’ll always be next to you,” Gu Won says.
Soon-hee catches Gu Won and Sa-rang together the following day, so he takes the former out to the market. Here, the wealthy heir is grilled by the elder’s friends over everything from house ownership to his job status and is humorously told he doesn’t “pass” as the concierge’s partner based on his lack of knowledge about her.
Still, Soon-hee does evidently care about Gu Won, starting a housing subscription account for him and treating him to a massive dinner. Ultimately, the elder has made it clear that the wealthy heir is the top candidate to be her granddaughter’s future husband.
That night, Gu Won gets to hear the woes of Sa-rang and her friends. The concierge only received a badge for her “best talent” award, Pyeong-hwa didn’t get her promised promotion, and Da-eul’s East Asia incentive trip fell through.
King the Land Season 1 Episode 9 Ending Explained
As Gu Won sends Sa-rang and her friends on a “luxury holiday,” Sang-sik almost exposes the wealthy heir’s identity as Head Manager, though he is swiftly interrupted. Unfortunately, this does mean the assistant goes on a power trip, taking charge as if he is a higher-up.
To end the episode, the incentive trip commences.
