Where was Hidden Strike on Netflix filmed – A breakdown of filming locations

Where was Hidden Strike filmed? We discuss the 2023 Netflix film and the filming locations used by the production crew.

It has been a long process to get Hidden Strike out to audiences.

On paper, the premise sounds amazing; it follows the story of two ex-soldiers in the not-too-distant future who have to work together to safely transport civilians along Baghdad’s notorious Highway of Death.

The two leads in the film are played by a stunning team of John Cena and Jackie Chan, the first time these two legends have starred together, who can both deliver action sequences and humor.

However, there was a point in the genesis of the project where it began to look doubtful if the film would ever get released.

Reports indicated that the film had actually wrapped in 2018, but there seemed to be some controversy around films that featured Chinese and American stars, with the social climate in China changing in regards to film, and of course, the pandemic didn’t help, but it has eventually managed to get a limited release in cinemas worldwide in 2023.

It will soon be available to watch on Netflix, and if you are a fan of buddy team-up comedy adventures, then you should keep an eye open for it.

However, this article is more interested in the production of the movie, so sit back and relax as we do the work to answer the question: Where was the Netflix movie Hidden Strike filmed?

Where was Hidden Strike on Netflix filmed – A breakdown of filming locations

Yinchuan, China

Early in the production, it was decided to film on location in China to help create an authentic aesthetic for the movie.

Yinchuan is the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and is also the permanent site for the Chinese Arab Expo, which allows for cultural and economic facilitation between China and Arab countries.

It is here that you can find the China Western Film Studio and the Zhenbeipu Western Film Studio.

Ningxia, China

The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is found in the Northwest of the People’s Republic of China.

The location is mostly a desert region and provides some vivid landscapes for filmmakers as it also has forested hills, flood plains, and table lands, making it a diverse location with plenty of options.

With the film being set in the near future and involving a plot about oil, a desert-like landscape was required for many of the shots, and an area like Ningxia was perfect for the shoot.

If you imagine the landscape of Mad Max, you will get a feel for the locations used in the film.

A lot of CGI was added to the location work, especially in the exciting chase sequences.

The locations used in Northern regions of China, where some scenes were filmed, caused plenty of headaches for the crew due to some torrential rain storms that resulted in mudslides that made filming impossible for a long time.
