Will there be a See You in My 19th Life Season 2?

This article discusses the possibility of See You in My 19th Life Season 2 and the renewed or canceled status of the Netflix K-Drama. It contains some spoilers for the first season.

See You in My 19th Life is one of Netflix‘s latest weekend K-Dramas, airing on Saturdays and Sundays for six weeks.

The plot revolves around Ji-eum, a young woman who has been reincarnated 18 times and can remember all — or most of, anyway — her previous lives. She can also remember the people she was close to in them, including Seo-ha, who she’s in love with but who continues to mourn the loss of her previous incarnation, Ju-won.

Across 12 episodes, the season does some interesting things with the premise, reinventing itself as a mystery and then a supernatural-ish revenge drama, though its overriding themes of forgiveness and reinvention are really what defines it.

Despite being reliably overshadowed by the much more popular King the Land, the show has nonetheless amassed a fairly enthusiastic following who, now that the season has concluded, are wondering about its potential future. Here’s everything we know.

Renewed or canceled status: TBC

At the time of writing Netflix have not renewed See You in My 19th Life for a second season.

Chances are, this will remain the case. It’s rare that the streaming giant renews its weekly slate of K-Dramas outside of rare exceptions like The Uncanny Counter, and this is a trend that is generally pervasive throughout South Korean television.

Some high-profile exceptions notwithstanding, the vast majority of Korean dramas only run for a single season, and this will almost certainly be the case here.

We already know through sites like Netflix Top 10 that the show, while popular — it’s currently eighth in the most-watched non-English TV rankings — is hardly setting the world alight. It boasts, in fact, only half of the watch hours that its direct competitor King the Land is bringing in. This isn’t enough to influence the streamer’s decision-making in any major way.

Likewise, the show doesn’t really lend itself to a continuation. The Season 1 finale was a conclusive, heartfelt ending to the show and closed off the most essential character arcs in a logical way. It would be almost impossible to return to the well without actually undermining those efforts.

Anything can happen, of course, but our official prediction is that See You in My 19th Life will not be renewed for Season 2. As ever, we’ll update this article as soon as we know more.
