Good Omens is a British fantasy comedy series from Prime Video that was created by Neil Gaiman (The Sandman). The show is based on the 1990 novel of the same name, which was written by Neil Gaiman in collaboration with Discworld author Terry Pratchett.
The second season continues the story from the first season and the international best-selling novel, yet uses entirely new material this time around. Neil Gaiman co-wrote the script with John Finnemore (That Mitchell and Webb Look), with Douglas Mackinnon (Doctor Who) directing all six installments.
Good Omens 2 centers on the ineffable relationship between the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant), warring best friends who have known one another since the very beginning of time.
They are forced to work together once again when the Supreme archangel of Heaven, Gabriel (Jon Hamm), goes missing. He turns up at Aziraphale’s bookshop with no memory of who he is or what his purpose is. All he knows is that something terrible is coming their way; a celestial war seems inevitable.
Aziraphale and Crowley decide to hide Gabriel and get to work investigating the apocalyptic foreshadowing Gabriel has spoken about.
This journey takes them across the country and links with flashbacks to key events from their chaotic past.
The much-loved series returns after a nearly four-year absence, but will Prime Video be eager to renew the show for a third season?
Will there be a Season 3 of the Prime Video series Good Omens – renewed or canceled status
As it stands, Prime Video is yet to make a decision on the future of Good Omens. The series is yet to be canceled or renewed.
Creator Neil Gaiman has already discussed the possibilities of a third season online though. The author has ideas for a third season and has already mapped out the storyline. It would seem the material is there; it just depends on how successful the second season is before a final decision is made.
The first season was popular with viewers and critics as well. It currently holds a score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.0/10 on IMDB. The show was praised for its stunning lead performances, with much love for Michael Sheen and David Tennant, although audiences wanted more from the short series.
I think a third season is quite possible at this point. Neil Gaiman has already started work on the next script, and the cast is adored by fans and critics alike. If the viewing numbers can match this early eagerness, then I see no problem with Prime Video greenlighting a third season.
With that in mind, I’m going to predict that Good Omens will indeed be renewed for a third season. As always, we will keep you posted on any updates in the pending renewal of Good Omens.
Omg! I just binge watched the entire 2nd season and my heart dropped @the end-,like “what?! It can’t just be over?!” They HAvE to renew for another season!! Although they did end utopia without the distopia so who knows? I hate how long prime waits between seasons, it is a drawback. Well i do hope your prediction turns out to be a good one! *fingers crossed*….
I really hope there’s at least one more season, and that the ending isn’t quite as infuriatingly up-in-the-air. I just finished binging season 2, and the Easter eggs for a certain fandom really made the season better.
I also hope it doesn’t take years to release season 3, the last two seasons were fantastic. I’d read the original novel about 20 years before season 1 aired (and man, do I feel old saying that!!) and they stayed pretty true to the book for season 1. It would be nice if Neil Gaiman would try writing more novels about this, I’m sure they would sell well. The show has probably vastly increased sales of the original novel.
