This article contains spoilers for the ending of The Tailor Season 2 Episode 8.
The Tailor Season 2 picks up after the cliffhanger ending of the first season, with Peyami having been shot in the midst of a love triangle with his psychotic best friend Dimitri and Dimitri’s runaway fiance, Esvet.
The second season picks up a while after that, with a recovering Peyami taking his new date, Cemre, to Esvet and Dimitri’s wedding. Of course, Peyami is still emotionally struggling, which is only made worse when his preoccupation almost results in the death of his father, Mustafa.
Throughout the season the rivalry between Peyami and Dimitri continues, as does the torrid romance between Peyami and Esvet, and Peyami’s investigations into his parentage, especially the identity of his mother. All of these disparate plot threads come together in the season finale.
The Tailor Season 2 Ending Explained
In many ways, the second season of The Tailor is about healing, and you see this theme threaded throughout many of the story beats and subplots.
Among those who can be said to have healed in the course of the season is Dimitri, so let’s talk about him.
Why did Dimitri burn the box?
“Hurt people hurt people,” or so the saying goes, and this sentiment is very much embodied by Dimitri.
Dimitri is abusive to Esvet and has been relentlessly throughout their “relationship”. Predictably, his lashing out — even his specific methods of punishment — are a legacy of his own abuse at the hands of his father, Ari, who would keep him locked inside the box that Dimitri would eventually lock Esvet in.
This was obvious to most given the nature of Dimitri and Ari’s relationship. The senior man expressed no fear of his son — in fact, very much to the contrary. Ari perhaps irreparably damaged Dimitri’s psyche and relationship with emotions, which is exposed in the season’s climax during a brawl with Peyami.
After, Dimitri burns that box, as a symbolic gesture of somewhat coming to terms with the legacy of his trauma.
Who is Kumru really?
Kumru is one of the new characters in this season of The Tailor. She’s introduced as an office cleaner but also visited Peyami as a nurse in the hospital after he had been shot in the first season finale.
The relationship between Kumru and Peyami is also central to the season’s theme of healing. She helps him to overcome his myriad health issues stemming from his experiences and current stresses, including constantly shaking hands and panic attacks.
However, Kumru is hiding a secret identity. She is really Kiraz, Peyami’s mother, and as part of her own healing process, she comes to terms with the idea that she cannot run away from her own child and responsibilities anymore.
Why did Kiraz leave Peyami?
In the first season, we got certain hints about what happened to Kiraz. She was bought by Peyami’s family as essentially a broodmare, and when it seemed like she wouldn’t be able to provide a child by Mustafa, she was cast out.
Kiraz cared for Mustafa but the choice was taken out of her hands. She discovered she was pregnant with Peyami after leaving, but despite her efforts to keep his existence a secret, he was eventually taken away by Sulun.
Kiraz never chose to leave her family. The decision was made for her. However, confronting her past and facing the family she was forced to leave behind is exceedingly difficult for her.
Thanks to the efforts of Esvet and Osman, Peyami’s collection ends with Kiraz being reunited with Mustafa.
