Destined with You Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

What happens with the wooden box?

When gifted the wooden box she apparently technically owns, Hong-jo finds herself unable to open it to discover what’s inside. Nevertheless, Sin-yu remains curious and wants a phone call when the civil servant eventually unlocks the antique.

Tired of Lee Hyun-seo’s smarminess, Sin-yu resigns from Law & High, perhaps ready to consider Jae-gyeong’s offer of a role working as a legal advisor at City Hall.

Elsewhere, Hong-jo practically gives up on opening the box, yet finds an unlikely breakthrough in a lonely moment when the antique opens itself.

At home, Sin-yu is told to “rest and get married” following his resignation, with his parents wanting health to be the lawyer’s priority.

Meanwhile, Hong-jo explores the contents of the wooden box and finds an intriguing spell book that covers topics ranging from love to curing disease.

What does Sin-yu do about the wooden box being opened?

The next day, Sin-yu arrives at City Hall for his first day of work and bumps into Hong-jo. Here, he presses for information on the wooden box’s contents before Jae-gyeong interrupts, ready to show the new legal advisor around. As it turns out, Jae-gyeong has also praised Hong-jo on the work message board, which flusters the civil servant.

After work, Sin-yu drops Hong-jo off at home and, following an action that protects her from a seemingly drunken man, is invited inside.

The two certainly seem closer now, something emphasized by the fact the lawyer is presented with the spell book to sift through.

In time, Sin-yu lingers on the “cure disease” spell. In fact, it interests him so much he asks Hong-jo if he can keep hold of it, happy for her to keep every other part of the book aside from that.

Slightly stunned, the civil servant agrees.

What is the history between Na-yeon and Hong-jo?

The next day, Sin-yu’s girlfriend, Na-yeon, attempts to sit down and apologize to Hong-jo for the history between the two. The civil servant isn’t particularly interested in hearing her former friend out, though, but does seem to have a period of self-reflection when Sin-yu notes the reason she may eat alone “might not lie in other people.”

Despite attempting to apologize for her wrongdoings towards Seo-goo, Hong-jo is still isolated from her work colleagues, who prefer to spend their time without her.

To make matters more awkward, the civil servant’s confession to Jae-gyeong falls flat, too, given he informs Hong-jo he likes her “as a person.”

Then, Sin-yu confronts Hong-jo. It’s over how the civil servant allegedly “knowingly stole” the boyfriend of Na-yeon back in their high school days, with the lawyer further theorizing his new colleague “gets excited” over kind gestures and, then, as a result, “confesses impulsively.”

Destined with You Season 1 Episode 2 Ending Explained

At work, rumors spread of Hong-jo’s unreciprocated confession, which understandably causes embarrassment. But the civil servant takes a different kind of approach to dealing with such feelings that night, as she conducts the “love spell” from the book inside the wooden box.

To end the episode, we watch as Hong-jo continues her love spell, and Sin-yu finds himself simultaneously struggling to subdue the red hand, which rises towards his cheek as he veers off course while driving.
