Summary

A decent episode sets up some interesting narrative threads.

We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Destined with You Season 1 Episode 5, which contains significant spoilers.

Although the plot progression wasn’t massive here, there were definitely some worthwhile narrative threads added into the mix during Destined with You episode five.

In particular, it’s worth wondering what Na-yeon’s (Yura) reaction will be should she find out her partner has found himself drawn to Hong-jo (Jo Bo-ah).

Destined with You Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Picking up where we left off, Hong-jo and Sin-yu begin to bond when the latter is respectful at a meal on the former’s commemoration day of her late father.

Nevertheless, the two do end up getting somewhat petty with each other later in the night, so they decide they’ll attempt to “go against” their apparently intertwined “destiny.”

What happens between Sin-yu and Na-yeon?

After Hong-jo goes out to inspect blood splattered over tree tags in Mount Onjo, Sin-yu continues to try and impress his crush, much to her humorous annoyance. Then, the legal advisor begins to reflect on Na-yeon’s marriage proposal, one which came despite her newfound knowledge of his illness.

When on a date with Na-yeon, things are a bit awkward for Sin-yu but otherwise okay. Or at least it seems that way until he spends time chasing around someone he believes to be Hong-jo.

Thus, the legal advisor visits the woman he supposedly shares a “destiny” with and theorizes he could even be seeing “hallucinations” of her now.

Following Sin-yu’s request for Hong-jo to “stay out of my sight,” the civil servant finds herself reflecting on Na-yeon.

Here, it’s revealed through a flashback that Hong-jo was branded a “maid” by the legal advisor’s partner, who became stern towards her supposed friend over the alleged boyfriend’s “stealing” incident.

How do Jae-gyeong and Hong-jo grow closer?

The next night, Jae-gyeong invites Hong-jo over, and the pair enjoy a “housewarming party.” In reality, it’s a meal and some beer, yet the latter in particular greatly enjoys her colleague’s company, as well as his invite for her to join him at the dog shelter on an upcoming visit.

What happens when Sin-yu is drunk?

When Yoon-joo tells Kim Wook she wishes to get a divorce, the latter worries when he meets Sin-yu that night, particularly as he begins to drink whiskey. However, the “pain” the legal advisor feels is not because his parents may separate (he doesn’t seem aware of that news as of now), but rather regarding his own love life.

Later, Sin-yu thinks back to Hong-jo’s description of how her father died rescuing two people, as well as the civil servant’s regret that she went on that trip with him and didn’t just stay in school (and “ignore the whole bullying thing”). “I killed my dad,” Hong-jo had stated, placing the blame for the tragedy on herself.

Drunkenly visiting Hong-jo, Sin-yu tries to explain his situation, and just when he’s asking his crush not to leave, he finds himself interrupted by Jae-gyeong. He wants to know why the legal advisor has dropped by and is disappointed at the “two-timing” going on.

Destined with You Season 1 Episode 5 Ending Explained

When taking Sin-yu back home, Hong-jo proposes she tries the “Disaster Nullification Spell” on the 19th of that month, given there will be a full moon then. But whether this idea will be accepted remains to be seen, as the episode ends with the civil servant looking like she’ll receive a kiss from the legal advisor.
