Who plays Luffy in Netflix One Piece live action series

Who plays Luffy in Netflix’s One Piece live-action series? We discuss the popular 2023 TV show and one of the key characters.

Netflix has taken a big punt on a live-action version of One Piece.

It has been a roller coaster to get to this point, and let’s be honest, there have been some quite damaging attempts at adapting beloved anime and manga into live-action properties. The more beloved the original, the more criticism you should expect.

However, it does seem that the production team behind this particular attempt has both the resources and vision to give this a good shot. At the time of writing, the show does seem to have garnered a lot of goodwill, and many fans of the property have praised the show; it seems that the production company has a love of the storyline and characters, as well as a deep respect for the fans.

With an IMDB rating of 8.6/10 at the time of writing, early reports are favorable (September 1st, 2023).

However, if it’s an episode-by-episode review of the show you are looking for, we have it covered already, and you can navigate your way to those articles right here.

This short feature, though, is a companion piece that will only take you two minutes to read and will answer the question: Who plays Luffy in Netflix’s One Piece live-action series?

Who is Luffy in Netflix’s One Piece and why are they important?

We meet the series’ protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, early in the first episode. Searching for the mythical One Piece, Luffy is blessed with optimism and self-belief and knows the only things he needs to complete his quest are a boat, a crew, and a map.

Luffy is basically the character through whom viewers see the landscape of One Piece.

He kickstarts proceedings, and we get to experience the events of the story through him, and he becomes the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates.

He also has the power to become elastic and stretchy, but that’s another story.

Who plays Luffy in Netflix’s One Piece?

Monkey D Luffy is played by the charismatic Inaki Godoy. Born on August 25, 2003, Inaki hails from Mexico City and has been acting since 2016.

It should be said that as far as character to actor goes, it’s hard to imagine another actor being cast in this role as he has been perfectly cast for this part.

What is Inaki Godoy known for?

Inaki started off in one episode of the TV series Blue Demon in 2016. He would go on to appear in La querida del Centauro, where he played Amadeo “El Gato.”

The TV work would continue with 2019’s Sin miedo a la verdad and 2021’s Who Killed Sara?

In 2020, he landed a role in the movie Go Youth, a coming-of-age movie, where he played Pedro. 2022 was a busy year, though, with appearances in The Imperfects, MexZombies, and No Abras La Puerta.

That pretty much gets you up to speed with the energetic actor.
