Summary
“Borderline” is another lowkey installment, featuring some small-scale character development and a handful of mildly amusing setups. It’s surprisingly endearing though and makes for an easy watch on the whole.
We recap the Apple TV+ series Physical Season 3 Episode 7, “Borderline,” which contains significant spoilers.
Season three of Physical has focused on a vicious rivalry between fitness gurus Sheila Rubin (Rose Byrne) and Kelly Kilmartin (Zooey Deschanel). Sheila turned the rivalry into an all-out war by tarnishing Kelly’s reputation on live TV in the previous outing.
Kelly and her new business partner Greta (Dierdre Friel) fight back in “Borderline.” While John Breem (Paul Sparks) investigates his wife’s shocking affair.
Physical Season 3 Episode 7 Recap
The episode opens with another one of Sheila’s wild visions. In this nightmare, she envisions all of her family and friends commenting on her weight and body shape down at the local supermarket. She wakes from this dream in bed with Carlos.
Carlos talks about how proud he is of Sheila’s TV statement. He says that he would like to meet Sheila’s daughter, Maya, as well. Sheila doesn’t really know how to approach this proposal with Danny, though. They’re on better terms now, and she doesn’t want to upset him further.

Meanwhile, John has a private investigator follow his wife, Maria. In the previous episode, he discovered that he wasn’t actually Grace’s biological father and assumed Maria must have had an affair. The private investigator points out Maria’s erratic behavior in detail.
John doesn’t know what to do, so he visits Sheila at her work. Her business has been booming since the TV appearance, but she makes time for John anyway. He tells her about the failed therapy suggestion.
John wants to know more about the treatment, though, and Sheila opens up about her past experiences. While they demo a mock therapy session, John speaks openly about his troubled marriage, and Sheila discusses her own fears.
Why is Danny jealous of Sheila?
After work, Fidelia meets with Danny. Fidelia is practically in awe of Sheila’s success, stating that she is like a superstar now and is even writing her own book. Danny is envious of Sheila’s renewed success and vows to write his own book.
Elsewhere, Greta and Kelly fight back after their onscreen trouncing by Sheila. Greta formulates a vindictive plan to get her revenge. She books Kelly a guest spot on Alphabet Alley, Maya’s favorite kids’ show. The idea was that Kelly would be on Maya and Sheila’s TV all day, every day.
Greta doesn’t know that Maya is staying with Danny, though. She thinks the plan will work perfectly as payback, although Sheila is actually unaware of the scheme, being too focused on her own business.
Nonetheless, they think that they are sending Sheila a message while also making some good money on the side.
At home, Sheila tries to strengthen her relationship with Carlos, but those vicious thoughts keep coming back. Her visions of Kelly continue to intensify. Kelly says that Carlos is boring and that Sheila should be having fun with John instead.
Sheila argues with these voices until she screams out loud at Carlos. The visions are getting out of hand, it would seem.
What is Maria’s secret?
John and Maria confront one another about their marital issues. Maria is aware that she is being followed. She confesses to the DNA debacle. Maria admits that she sought out a fertility doctor, who found out that it was John’s sperm that was the issue. Maria had treatment in secret and used a sperm donor to get pregnant with baby Grace.
After Carlos requested to meet with Maya, Sheila decided to address the issue with Danny. She informs her ex-husband that she is dating once again, and her new boyfriend wants to meet Maya.
Danny says that he is also dating. Then Maya enters the room, dressed like Kelly Kilmartin. Danny defends his parenting, stating that this is all Kelly’s fault, not his doing. Sheila was unaware that Kelly was doing a guest spot on Alphabet Alley.
That night, Sheila argues with manifestations of Kelly. The malicious voice in her head talks about Sheila’s need to push everyone away. Sheila admits that Carlos does bore her and that he is too kind. She is lonely and misses Greta.
Kelly offends Sheila, and they end up arguing once again. Maya then walks in as Sheila is screaming at thin air.
Physical Season 3 Episode 7 Ending Explained
As the episode concludes, Sheila confronts Greta backstage at the children’s TV show. Sheila loses it and starts screaming at Kelly, calling her a liar and a fake. Kelly stops mid-recording and storms over to address Sheila and her rantings.
Sheila says that she wants Greta back. She apologizes and begs for Greta to return to her. Greta surprisingly accepts Sheila back right away. Greta owns up about the kids’ TV show just being a ploy.
Sheila says that she will work tirelessly to earn back Greta’s trust. They then decide to go and grab a burger together. Their friendship is restored!
