Summary

An abrupt transition into the beginning of the Shibuya Incident that almost feels rushed.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 7, “Evening Festival,” which contains spoilers.

The Shibuya Incident arc got off to a thrilling start in episode six when fans were hit with two shocking reveals.

Not only did viewers get to meet Mechamaru’s puppet master, Muta (voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka), for the first time, but they also learned Geto (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) may not be as dead as previously thought.

With so many surprises this early on, it’s impossible to imagine this season getting any crazier, but with an unpredictable series like Jujutsu Kaisen, there’s no such thing as too crazy.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 7 Recap

The episode opens with Geto, Mahito, and Muta continuing their battle. Muta controls a giant puppet referred to as Ultimate Mechamaru. Muta attempts to use a year’s worth of his stored energy to exercise Mahito first, but it does not work because it cannot injure his soul.

How many years of cursed energy does Muta have stored?

Thanks to his heavenly restriction, Muta has seventeen years, five months, and six days of cursed energy stored.

This allowed him to channel that cursed energy into special-grade strength blasts.

What is a simple domain?

A simple domain is a technique that temporarily creates a small barrier around the user when activated inside a domain and prevents the usual assured hit function seen in a normal domain environment.

This allows Muta to damage Mahito regardless of any techniques.

Does Mahito kill Muta?

Although his body is not seen, it is implied that Mahito killed Muta when Ultimate Mechamaru’s body is shown lying destroyed in the forest.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 7 Ending Explained

On October 31st, a veil is lowered over part of Tokyo. The humans inside find themselves trapped. Outside of the veil, Kiyotaka informs Nanami and his team, consisting of Megumi and Takuma Ino, of the situation at hand.

As more information about the veil comes forth, it is revealed that the humans inside the veil are being forced to ask for Gojo by name. and that only sorcerers are free to come and go from it.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about the pacing choices made for this episode. While the animation was notable during the scene where Mahito transformed into a number of different animals while trying to escape Muta’s attacks, the rest felt hurried.

Although it played out mostly the same way in the manga, the scene where Ultimate Mechamaru’s body is shown after the fight could’ve been clearer, I think, instead of brushed over, as it’s a bit hard to see clearly. I just felt like it lacked the emotion the scene was trying to convey.

Overall, this definitely felt like a jumpstart episode, like it was only here to lead us to the real action. While I’m never upset about more action, it probably would’ve been better to make Muta’s fight last one episode instead of two, as this episode almost feels like a throwaway.
