Summary
An exhilarating ride that holds up against the devastating ending of the episode.
In the last episode, Jogo, Hanami (voiced by Atsuko Tanaka), and Choso challenged Gojo (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura), attempting to trap him in an impossible situation. Despite the several dozen civilians surrounding them, he did not back down, so there’s still a chance he may have a plan in mind. At the same time, Mei Mei’s (voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi) team has run into a sticky situation on their own, descending into what most definitely feels like a trap on B5. Things are not looking good for any of them, and there’s a good chance they’re about to get worse.
The episode opens with various characters giving their opinions about Gojo. It then cuts to an exhausted Gojo holding the heads of two curses. Gojo kills Hanami by crushing them against a wall. He had first weakened Hanami by ripping the branches from his eye sockets.
What is the Prison Realm?
The Prison Realm is a special-grade cursed object described as a living barrier that is powerful enough to seal anyone or anything. Gojo is sealed inside the Prison Realm in a plan enacted by Geto, Jogo, Mahito, Choso, and Hanami. Despite trying to escape, he is brought to a standstill when Geto appears in front of him, allowing the Prison Realm enough time to seal him.
How Does Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Episode 9 End?
Gojo wonders just how it is that Geto is standing in front of him. In his hesitation, the Prison Realm begins to take hold of him. Geto then reveals he is actually a curse that has just taken over Geto’s corpse.
Gojo reminds Geto that Yuta is still out there, but Geto does not seem bothered. Yuji then gets a call in his earpiece and receives word that Gojo has been sealed.
In this action-packed episode, it was really the animation that stood out this time. Fans seemed torn on the animation when it came to Yuji versus the Grasshopper cursed spirit. While many didn’t seem to like how quickly his hands moved in that scene, Gojo’s fast-paced fight sequence seemed much smoother and easier to make out in terms of overall clarity.
There were a lot of exciting moments in this episode, but I was most excited to get more explanation on how Geto reappeared. Hearing Yuta’s namedrop was also unexpected but welcome. Many fans have been interested in seeing his anime debut since he first appeared in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie.
It will be interesting to see what Geto’s plan is from here and just how long it will be until we see Gojo again.
