Rebelde Season 1 (Credit - Netflix)

Rebelde is the 2022 remake of the original 2004 hit Telenovela in Mexico of the same name, and it was well received by audiences, so if you are a fan, I’ve put together 10 TV shows like it.

This adolescent series ran for two seasons before being canceled by Netflix. The story surrounds students from different socioeconomic backgrounds who cross paths with each other at an elite private school. As the new term starts, a familiar enemy in a secret society called the Lodge threatens to crush the musical hopes of the first years. The series was likely canceled due to poor viewership. The series is also aimed at older teens and young adults, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Control Z (2020)

Control Z is a Mexican teen drama that is suspenseful, dramatic, and over-the-top but in a juicy way. A hacker begins releasing students’ secrets to the entire high school, which prompts socially isolated but observant Sofía to work undercover to find the hacker’s identity before they expose hers.

Elite (2018)

This Spanish series has an impressive six seasons to binge. Elite is similar to Rebelde as it’s another mystery and teen drama. Three working-class teenagers enroll in an exclusive private school in Spain, and there is a heavy clash between them and wealthy students. This leads to a dramatic murder, but who committed the crime?

Riverdale (2017)

Riverdale is an American television series based on the characters of Archie Comics. Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica live in a town rife with sinister happenings and bloodthirsty criminals. They have to juggle everything from love triangles to serial killers.

13 Reasons Why (2017)

This drama handles a lot of serious topics, including suicide, profanity, sexual abuse, and drug use, so much so it was banned in a few states and its first season removed from Netflix. The series revolves around Clay, who discovers his friend’s tapes, and she explains the 13 reasons why she chose to commit suicide.

Ginny & Georgia (2021)

This series, Ginny & Georgia, is more light-hearted but with no lack of drama. It explores the relationship between a mother and her daughter. Teenager Ginny and her family try to put down roots in a picturesque New England town after years on the run, but this isn’t as easy as it seems, as there are family secrets and teenage dramas to deal with.

Euphoria (2019)

HBO’s hugely popular teen drama Euphoria is hard-hitting and pushes boundaries. The story depicts how destructive drugs can be through a group of teenagers. Hollywood heart-throb Zendaya leads the show with her award-winning performance and is a must-watch for all teen drama fans.

Pretty Little Liars (2010)

A fan-favorite guilty pleasure – Four estranged friends, Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily, must band together against an anonymous foe who threatens to reveal their darkest secrets. There are some serious plot twists across the seven seasons, and similar to Rebelde, the show features themes of murder, mystery, and friendship.

Sex Education (2019)

Sex Education is a British teen sex comedy-drama streaming television series created by Laurie Nunn for Netflix.

It follows the lives of the students of Moordale, especially socially awkward Otis, his flamboyant best friend Eric, and moody Meave, who together begin to run a sex advice clinic for the school. Otis gets his information from his mother, Jean, who is a sex therapist, and while he’s trying to help everyone, it’s his own love and sex life that can use some serious work.

Get Even (2020)

There’s a running theme in many of these recommendations: elite schools and groups of teenagers doing more than just studying. In Get Even, the girls don’t get mad; they get even. At the elite Bannerman Independent School, four teenage girls join together to expose and fight injustice.

Derry Girls (2018)

This dark comedy is set in Northern Ireland and is a must-watch for comedy fans. The story follows a group of friends on many exciting adventures as they attend a Catholic girls’ school amid a national conflict.

The drama in this series is much more adult and real than over-the-top soap style like others on the list. It’s hilariously hard-hitting, and across the four seasons, we see our unique, quirky group of friends grow, develop, and tackle love, traveling, and politics in Northern Ireland at the time.
