Summary
Slow and steady does it as we continue to investigate the hidden secrets of Godolkin University. With a predictable cliffhanger, this episode is the dullest yet.
Episode 3 of Gen V was the final of the first released episodes when season 1 aired, so this must have a seriously good fight scene and cliffhanger to make audiences compelled to keep watching, right? Wrong. It’s a slow, serious, and slightly boring start. It takes more than a predictable snog to get our juices flowing by now. “#ThinkBrink” further explores the characters’ physical and mental well-being, and we finally see more of Sam. We learn a little about his powers, the secrets Godolkin University has been hiding, and those who have been keeping them.
This episode leaves Marie to be the poster girl for Godolkin and focuses more on Andre and Emma until closer to the end, when Marie has a slight freakout at Jordan regarding her powers and her parents’ death. She’s trying not to look like the attention-grabbing mean girl but a damaged girl who deserves credit and fame. This could wear a little thin, as it seems like everyone’s had some trauma when discovering their powers.
In Episode 2, Cate and Andre are on a mission to learn more about what happened to Golden Boy, and from this, they become closer than ever as they unravel the truth about Godolkin University. A little too close, if you ask me.
It’s the big, glitzy, glamorous night of the gala fundraiser, and many of our heroes have to face their biggest villains yet: their parents! This is the perfect opportunity to keep everyone busy while Andre gets Emma involved in his missions by using her teeny-tiny powers to help sneak under closed doors and find Sam.
Sam and Emma’s scenes are the funniest, but unfortunately, they’re short-lived, as this happens towards the end.
Friends Again?
Marie and Emma reconcile. In Episode 2, their friendship had become a little strained. In the beginning, the two roommates discuss their monstrous powers and how they both intentionally inflict pain on their bodies. They both show they care for the other and claim to be in control of their powers.
At the gala, in the girls’ bathroom, Marie apologizes to Emma and Emma hugs her with force as you can tell these two need one another’s friendship. Emma holds her as Marie pees on the toilet — it’s weird but it’s also kinda sweet.
Does Emma escape?
Andre sends Emma on a mission to find Sam. While she’s in his cell having a nice chat, the alarms begin to ring, and a guard invades his room. Tiny Emma fights the guard and kills him, but she does not manage to escape as more guards show up.
Like the previous three episodes, it’s the final 5-10 minutes which is where the most action and excitement happens.
Towards the end, Emma is with Sam in his cell, and he’s being electrocuted by a guard to keep his powers at bay. The alarms are set off as they know there is an intruder — how they know, we don’t know. Emma jumps onto the guard, running through his ears and head, and kills him. This then causes more guards to show up, and she’s tiny, covered in blood, with nowhere to go and no one to save her.
We do know that Andre has confessed to Cate, Jordan, and Marie that he’s done something terrible with Emma, so as much as Marie doesn’t want to be involved in the drama, she’s going to have to in order to save her best friend.
