By the end of episode 7 of The Wheel of Time Season 2, all five friends from the Two Rivers are in or on their way to Falme. Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) is forced to go against her lover while Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) and Elayne (Ceara Coveney) are planning Egwene’s (Madeleine Madden) rescue.

The episode starts with a flashback from 20 years prior when Moiraine and Siuan were happily planning their future together. They visit their Blue Sitter to give her news about the end of the war.

But the Blue Sitter receives a vision of Rand’s birth on the battlefield, and before succumbing to it, she orders Moiraine and Siuan to keep the Dragon’s arrival a secret.

In present-day Cairhien, Siuan is upset about Moiraine and asks to meet Rand. When Rand comes face to face with Siuan, she shocks him by shielding his powers and locking him up.

As Siaund explains, upon finding the Dragon Reborn, the Aes Sedai are supposed to lock him in a cage and keep him there until he’s needed as a weapon for the last battle.

Meanwhile, Mat is attacked and knocked out while in the Foregate. When he comes to, he is in Falme, where Lanfear greets him.

Also in Falme, Nynaeve and Elayne are working together on a plan to save Egwene.

Speaking of poor Egwene, she has reached that part of her training where she must wear that dreadful-looking golden gag.

Renna and Egwene have joined the other sets of damane and their sul’dam to see the limits of each channeler’s powers. Of course, Egwene proves she’s the strongest.

In a bid to convert Mat to the Dark, Ishamael offers him tea that allows him to peek into all his past lives. The vision shows several versions of Mat as an evil man who was hanged for his crimes in one previous life.

As soon as he wakes up, he appears on board with what Ishamael is offering: the chance to stop the Wheel turning once and for all.

As they’re crossing the desert on their way to Falme, Perrin and Aviendha come across two Aiel warriors who give her some devastating news about one of their own. To Perrin’s shock, Aviendha allows her fellow warriors to beat her during a bizarre ritual.

To Moiraine horror, Siuan has shielded Rand from the One Power and intends to announce that the White Tower is controlling him.

Liandrin pays Moiraine’s sweet nephew, Barthanes, a visit. But he’s not so sweet after all. He’s a Darkfriend.  And Liandrin is there to give him one cruel order: Barthanes must murder his aunt. However, a shocked Anvaere heard the conversation.

Desperate to save Egwene, Rand heads into the dream world and asks Lanfear to help escape the Aes Sedai. True to form, Lanfear shows up for him. Her methods, however, are fiery and destructive.

Lan pays his friend Logaine a visit, who tells him he can see strands of One Power weaved around Moiraine. She’s still somehow connected to the One Power.

As Perrin and his three Aiel warrior friends are arriving in the city, Nynaeve and Elayne are putting their plan to save Egwene into motion. They kidnap one of the damane trainers and place the collar on her neck.

Meanwhile, Renna tries to bond with Egwene, but her friendship offers are continually rebutted.

As Barthanes is about to attack Moiraine, Anvaere intervenes and locks her son up. She also told the Queen and other relevant authorities about his turn to the Dark, which probably means the wedding is off.

Verin, Lan, and Alanna help Moiraine and Rand escape. As they’re trying to get out of the city through the Waygate, Lan reveals what he learned from Logaine.

It turns out, Ishamael didn’t cut Moiraine from the One Power in the season one finale. He just made knots on her weaves to stop her from using them. Luckily, Rand can cut off the knot, restoring her ability to channel.  Newly restored to power, Moiraine happily opens the Waygate. But before she can go through, she’s interrupted by Siuan who orders her to close it.

Despite her refusal, Moiraine is bound by her oath to Siuan and has to obey her. However, Lanfear intervenes and defeats the Amyrite Seat without breaking a sweat.

Lanfear wants to kill Moiraine, but Rand won’t let her. She opens the Waygate and walks through it with Lan and Rand. Moiraine hesitates to leave an injured Siuan behind but ultimately does.
