Summary
“Cosmic Ocean” is the best episode from the second season so far, with an exciting final third and numerous tense sequences. But once again, Invasion is hampered by an ensemble cast of unlikable characters that ruin the show’s more intriguing elements and its spectacular visual flair.
As we get nearer to the Season 2 finale of the Apple TV+ original series, Invasion ups the stakes and mounts further tension in “Cosmic Ocean.” Episode 8 splits its time between three storylines: Mitsuki deciphers the alien’s language in Brazil, Trevante and Rose investigate the mysterious hole in Oklahoma, and the children infiltrate a lab in France.

Invasion Season 2 Episode 8 Recap
The episode opens with Mitsuki’s narrative. She’s rapidly losing her mind, seeing and hearing things that aren’t there as she investigates the alien’s language. Mitsuki sees visions of Maya, warning her to take a break. Then she actually talks with Maya in reality. Maya is worried about Mitsuki’s symptoms, urging her to rest before they worsen.
Mitsuki has had a brainwave though. She meets with the other scientists, who have all been turned into zombie-like patients after their own individual encounters with the alien entity. Mitsuki listens to them as they make strange sounds and convulse with alien ticks. She believes that the scientists are now communicating, using the alien’s own language.
She records these ticks and analyses them further. Nikhil finds Mitsuki decoding their language and grows tired of Mitsuki’s rogue behavior. He orders her to re-enter the enclosure immediately. Maya defends Mitsuki’s actions and argues with Nikhil. She doesn’t think Mitsuki is ready to meet with the alien just yet.
Why does Maya sabotage the suits?
Maya quits after her argument with Nikhil. Before leaving she sabotages the suits. This buys Mitsuki an extra day away from the enclosure. Nikhil confronts Maya before she departs. Maya admits that she kept one suit unharmed, which happens to be Nikhil’s very own. She says that if Nikhil believes in the process so badly, then he should go into the enclosure himself.

Meanwhile, Trevante makes it to the bottom of the hole at the military base. He finds a sealed hatch and starts to unlock it. Unfortunately, Trevante is captured before entering. He is taken to meet with the General. On his way there, he passes a room filled with abductees.
General Mitchell explains that the missing people were saved and are now been examined closely. Trevante asks for more details, but the General states that everything else is classified information. Then Trevante is thrown in a cell for his troubles.
Rose sees Trevante being captured. She returns to the police station and locks Officer Wade in a prison cell. Rose asks him to keep Caspar’s notebook safe. She plans on returning to the military base to look for answers herself. Rose worries that she might not make it out alive though and needs Wade to keep going with her investigation if she fails.
Then in France, Jamila and the others infiltrate the Orleans lab. Caspar senses the other special children and they are soon all reunited. The two groups swap information about the aliens. It is revealed that the special children are somehow connected with the aliens and they all envisioned Caspar in their dreams.
What happens when the alien retaliates?
Back in Brazil, Nikhil goes rogue and enters the alien enclosure alone. He fights the alien, causing it great distress. The alien retaliates, which causes Nikhil to scream out in agony. The earth starts to shake, with all the other characters feeling the same effects across the globe.
The special kids in France start to scream out in pain, but Caspar is unaffected. Jamila and Monty fear that Caspar is working with the aliens now because he isn’t suffering from the same symptoms as the other special kids. The building starts to fall apart due to these earthquakes. Rose sees similar sites back in Oklahoma. She decides to enter the site as the chaos ensues. Rose breaks into the base, but she is soon captured as well.
Inside the crashed alien spacecraft, a site evacuation is put in place. Mitsuki ignores the alarms and watches as Nikhil is attacked. The alien engulfs Nikhil and he is transported from this realm. Nikhil’s body and the alien entity return only moments later. Mitsuki and Maya drag his body out of the enclosure.
Invasion Season 2 Episode 8 Ending Explained
Benya contacts the Brazilian site. They are recording global seismic activity and Nikhil’s base is the primary epicenter. Maya states that the alien is out of control, they don’t know what to do. Mitsuki decides to enter the enclosure without her suit on, hoping to destroy the alien once and for all.
She enters and communicates with the alien. Again, it uses Hinata’s voice to distract her. The alien tries to coerce Mitsuki to be with it, using Hinata against her. Mitsuki accepts that Hinata is dead though and then attacks back, destroying the alien entity entirely.
The episode ends with Mitsuki checking the readings from Nikhil’s suit. She realizes at that moment that the alien was a portal. Mitsuki has destroyed their only way into the alien’s lair.
