Netflix’s survival-based reality game show Surviving Paradise managed to find the ideal location to take twelve easily fooled contestants to, with the poor fools thinking they were in for a luxurious stay at a stunning house. Instead, half of them were expelled from the creature comforts of the villa and cast out into the wastelands, forced into competing against each other so they could get back to the house, and move towards an ultimate prize of a hundred grand. If you’re wondering which titular paradise the show was filmed in, read on for our full breakdown.
The saps are partying in the luxury accommodation, but of course that’s all part of the bait and switch, as pretty soon they are kicked out like a bunch of privileged squatters, and left with nothing but their wits to survive.
The key is to find a way to get back to the villa, and that means doing anything that is required to get back.
However, you have to be careful who you make friends with here, as everyone almost always has their own agenda, and you may not be part of it, meaning you could be back out of the house as quickly as you got in there.
Where was Surviving Paradise on Netflix filmed? A Breakdown of Locations
Greece
To make a show like this you have to be careful to select somewhere that is accessible, affordable, and looks like the kind of place where the contestants would thrive in.
Greece must have ticked all the boxes, and that’s where the group all get together.
The show comes from Studio Lambert, who are no slouches when it comes to this kind of content. They are behind other shows such as The Traitors, The Circle, and Gogglebox, and know a thing or two about this kind of production.
Lefkada, Greece
If we are honest, it probably doesn’t matter where the actual villa is, but it does look as if it was filmed in Lefkada. The players arrive at the villa via car, boat, and helicopter, and some loose dialogue reveals that it is definitely filmed in Greece, but there is still a bit of ambiguity about the exact location of the villa.
There are plenty of establishing shots of the villa, the sea around it, and the woodland area the players spend a bit of time in.
It also seems that the contestants don’t really know where they are either, and it still doesn’t matter; they are much more interested in sizing each other up and finding out who is who, and what advantages they can find over the others.
Since “paradise” is such a subjective term and reality television tends to function in very specific and familiar ways, Surviving Paradise could have been filmed anywhere and it wouldn’t have made much of a difference.
