The fascination with and fear of what happens after death has caused many comedy shows to have top billing, including Netflix’s The Good Place, BBC’s Ghosts, and Prime Video’s Upload, a comedy series about the afterlife where our dearly departed can continue their existence on a digital platform. Created by Greg Daniels, the series stars Robbie Amell, Andy Allo, Allegra Edwards, Zainab Johnson, and Kevin Bigley, and is now currently in its third season. Whilst the first two seasons are known for being filmed in Vancouver, fans want to know where Upload Season 3 was filmed.

This science-fiction series follows the story of one man called Nathan, who is able to choose his own afterlife after his untimely death. He’s able to be in contact with the living, including his girlfriend, and is basically free to do what he wants, like investigating if his death was really an accident. Nathan bonds with his living handler/angel, Nora, and the two of them are like Batman and Robin.

The series is a play on how expensive it is to die, with many other political and emotional undertones.

Vancouver, B.C.

Cecil Green Park House

Upload shot much of its scenes throughout the series’ three seasons on location. Here are some examples of places used throughout the seasons.

The gardens of Lakeview were filmed on the property of Cecil Green Park House, a Tudor-style mansion in Vancouver that has been used as a filming location in many other productions including Riverdale, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The X-Files, and Fifty Shades Freed.

The entrance to Horizen employees’ offices is situated at 100 Powell Street in Gastown, Vancouver.

Fran, Nathan’s cousin and detective, has some trouble with the car at the historic Malibu Farm Pier Cafe.

There’s a scene of Nathan standing at The Lakeview dock, and this was shot at Deer Lake Park in the center of Burnaby.

New York

Mohonk Mountain House

Everyone loves New York, so it’s a good thing that the Prime Video series took advantage of shooting the Manhattan skyline in the background — though it was edited in post to make it look more futuristic, as the series is set in 2033 (a lot can happen in ten years.) Whilst her apartment was filmed in NY, Nora’s office was filmed in Vancouver.

The central location of Nathan’s afterlife in Upload is the Lakeview Resort, a digital hotel modeled after the beautiful Victoria-style hotels of the United States and Canada. The exterior and some interior scenes were shot at the Mohonk Mountain House near New Paltz, New York. And the Fairway Market in Brooklyn, New York, is used as Nora’s apartment.

California

The Castle Green

The Castle Green

The Castle Green in Pasadena, California was utilized as the interior of Lakeview Resort. The hall within the afterlife hotel was shot within this historical venue that was built in 1989. Many of the sets built at the studio in Vancouver were meant to imitate the Pasadena event center’s Victorian-style historical design and structure — it’s a lovely contrast to Upload‘s futuristic technology, bringing a balance between past, present, and future.
