Summary
Although a bit slow at the start, this episode picks up in the second half and ends strong.
Out of all the fights coming up in the Shibuya Incident arc, Yuji versus Choso was easily one of the most anticipated to air this season. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 13 more than delivered, dedicating the entire episode to their epic encounter before a strange flashback seemed to change the trajectory of the fight. Now, in Episode 14, Yuji has the chance to finish Choso off while he’s confused, but it may be hard with him so badly injured.
Also, a sudden appearance from Geto’s girls could be the alliance Yuji needs to take advantage of in this fight.
The episode opens with Mei Mei and Ui Ui taking on the Smallpox curse. Despite using an elaborate three-step plan to trap her inside their domain and infect her with Smallpox, Mei Mei manages to escape.
Mei Mei decides to shift the focus of the curse to Mei Mei, potentially sacrificing him in the process. While Ui Ui is trapped, it buys her enough time to attack the curse and kill it using her attack, Bird Strike.
In the station, Nanami, Maki, and Naobito encounter an octopus-cursed spirit named Dagon. After learning Hanami is dead, Dagon evolves into a stronger version of themselves. The four of them begin to battle.
Naobito’s cursed technique is Projection Sorcery. With Projection Sorcery, Naobito sees seconds divided up into twenty-four separate frames that he can then emulate the trajectory of. At the same time, Naobito can also see the frames of anyone he touches and force them to follow the path. If the enemy does not do what is laid out in their twenty-four-frame future, they are frozen for one second.
Dagon manages to trap Naobito, Nanami, and Maki in his domain. They are all but overwhelmed by his technique as he attacks them with hoards of shikigami fish.
Megumi appears suddenly, having infiltrated Dagon’s domain to throw Maki a cursed tool.
Megumi deploys his domain as well, which begins to nullify the effects of Dagon’s as the two compete for dominance. As he attempts to keep his domain up, Nanami rushes to Megumi’s side to protect him.
Megumi reveals his real plan is not to dominate Dagon’s domain but to put a small hole in its barrier that the group can use to escape and defeat him. As they attempt to escape through the hole, Toji suddenly jumps into Dagon’s domain instead.
While this episode didn’t quite feel as epic as last week’s fight with Yuji and Choso, it ended up being exciting in its own right. Moving on from Mei Mei just as she encountered Geto felt disappointing, but the fight with Dagon definitely made up for it later.
When it comes to Jujutsu Kaisen, it feels like MAPPA always puts a lot of effort into animating their fight sequences, so they’re also engaging.
The best parts of the episode came at the end, with both Megumi and Toji popping in out of nowhere to stir the pot even further. They should make next week’s episode that much better.
