Prime Video has renewed Upload for Season 4, though this season will be the last for the platform’s oldest ongoing comedy series. Greg Daniels’ hit sci-fi satire debuted back in May 2020 and has gone on strong for three consecutive seasons. Season 4 will bring the long-running story to a hopefully resonant conclusion.
Season 4 Is Confirmed But Will Be The Last
Upload has officially been renewed for Season 4.
This is unsurprising since the data always pointed in this direction. Creator Greg Daniels was also optimistic about it, telling The Wrap:
“You know, we are the number one half-hour on the platform, and I think we do a good job in terms of bang for the buck. So I would bet on the fact that there’d be another season. I don’t want to jinx it, obviously. But certainly, we were writing it that way.”
This confidence has paid off. Daniels serves as the showrunner as well as creator and executive producer. On the subject of Season 4, Veron Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, said:
“I’m thrilled to share that ‘Upload’ will return to Prime Video for a fourth and final installment. We are grateful to Greg and the fantastic team behind the series and while goodbyes are bittersweet, we know that the series will be uploaded to its well-deserved idealistic after-life.”
The show is a huge success for Prime Video, this is their number-one comedy series after all. The show is always found in the company’s top ten lists and is critically adored as well. Season 3 currently holds an 83% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, which aligns nearly perfectly with the audience score too. And on IMDb, the series has an overall rating of 7.9/10.
Set in a dystopian future where humans can upload their consciousnesses to a virtual afterlife, Upload focuses on deceased computer engineer Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell), who has recently returned to the real world in a download body.
This return to reality gives Nathan a chance to explore his romantic relationship with Nora (Andy Allo), but there is a very real threat that his head may explode at any given minute. The couple get to know each other more intimately, whilst unraveling a conspiracy that involves Freeyond and the other Upload companies. Nora and Nathan plan to shut down Freeyond before many people are killed.
Meanwhile, Tinsley has rebooted a backup copy of Nathan into the system, so there are now two versions of Nathan out there. One in the real world and one in the digital realm. This is great news for Ingrid (Allegra Edwards), who now has a second chance at love with Nathan, albeit his backup copy.
The third season explores corporate conspiracies and messy romances, all against the backdrop of a dystopian future society, where technology has turned the world upside down. It has been well-received by critics and much-loved by its faithful fan base, so will Prime Video be renewing the show for a fourth season after all?
As always, we will keep you posted on any updates in the pending renewal of Upload.
